Great Central Railwayana Auctions

Auction Catalogue: Great Central Railwayana, 20 January 2007

Lot 22 A Locomotive Nameplate "THE PRESIDENT" from a 0-6-0T built by Hudswell Clarke in 1923, Works No 1419, which went new to the Oxfordshire Ironstone Co at Wroxton Quarries near Banbury in July 1923. It was not named until June 1926 when the nameplates were obtained from Hunslet Engine Co and not Hudswell Clarke which explains why they are Hunslet style plates with non-serif letters. It was named after The President of Trinity College, Oxford whose land was extensively quarried by the company. It was cut up on site by a local scrap merchant, James Friswell of Banbury, in the autumn of 1955. Ex loco condition with original red paintwork, 39_"x6_".
 This lot sold for £2000

Please note: that the '_' (underscore character) after the inches shown above represents a fractional
