A Locomotive Nameplate, "ROEDEER", from the LNER B1 Class 4-6-0, LNER No 1040, BR 61040, the first of its Class to be built by North British Locomotive Co in April 1946, Works No 25796. It was allocated new to Norwich but moved to Darlington in 1951 to spend the rest of its days on the North Eastern Region, with later moves to York, Darlington again, Low Moor, Mirfield and Wakefield from where it was withdrawn in July 1966. It was cut up three months later at Kings, Norwich. Named after a small, elegant deer inhabiting the northern forests of Scotland, it is the only B1 "Antelope" named after a British species and one of the best names in the Class. 42_" long, original condition with letters lightly polished long ago.
