A Brass Cabside Numberplate "SOUTH AFRICAN RAILWAYS, E15, 1E", from a 3'6" gauge Class 1E electric, one of a batch of 78 locos built by Metropolitan Vickers & Co, Manchester, in 1924/5 for the first main line electrification in South Africa between Pietermaritzburg and Glencoe. Most were withdrawn in the 1970s. Cast brass oval, 20_"x14_", the front repainted red, with black outer ring.
