Auction Catalogue: Great Central Railwayana, 19 January 2008
| Lot 9 |
A Locomotive Worksplate "LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 62742, DARLINGTON WORKS, 1932", from the LNER D49 "Hunt" Class 4-4-0 "THE BRAES OF DERWENT" built at Darlington in August 1932, original number 255, renumbered 2742 in 1946, becoming BR 62742. In BR days it was shedded at York and Leeds Neville Hill from where it was withdrawn in November 1958. After four months in store at Darlington Works, it was cut up there in February 1959. The engine takes its name, probably the best in the Class, from the Hunt which operated in the Durham and Shotley Bridge area. Cast brass oval, 9"x5", lightly cleaned, the loco's original number "255" clearly visible beneath the renumbering strip.
