Auction Catalogue: Great Central Railwayana, 12 July 2008
| Lot 17 |
An industrial Locomotive Nameplate "MAUD", from a 0-4-0ST O/C built by Peckett, Works No 1937, in 1938 and supplied new to The Oxfordshire Ironstone Co at Wroxton near Banbury where it was named. It worked at Wroxton until dieselisation in 1964/5 and was scrapped by George Cohen, Cransley, Northants in September 1965. The nameplates were fitted to the recently acquired 0-4-0DH built by Sentinel, Works No 10142, in December 1962 which worked at Wroxton until the OIC closed in September 1967 when it was transferred to Stewarts & Lloyds Minerals Ltd at Market Overton Quarry. It worked at several other quarries in the East Midlands before moving to Panteg Works, Monmouthshire in October 1973. In April 1989 it was acquired for preservation at the Dean Forest Railway where it is no longer in use but stored in a siding awaiting its turn for overhaul. The plate is face restored with the background painted in the maroon adopted by the OIC for its locos, the back untouched. Cast brass, 20_"x6_", with serif lettering.
