An original BR Works Pattern for the casting of a diesel locomotive badge which was displayed above the nameplates on the BR Class 45 1Co-Co1 diesel electric No D71 "THE STAFFORDSHIRE REGIMENT (THE PRINCE OF WALES'S)" built by BR, Crewe in November 1960. The nameplates with badges above were fitted on 20th May 1966 without ceremony at Derby Works and were removed in February 1988 when the loco was withdrawn. The loco was renumbered 45049 in March 1975 and cut up at MC Processors, Glasgow in April 1989. The badge depicts the coat-of-arms of the Regiment which was formed in 1959 by the amalgamation of the North and South Staffordshire Regiments,12_" diameter, featuring the Staffordshire knot, Prince of Wales feathers and crown. Hand carved in wood and mounted on a brown resin plate, the motto "ICH DIEN" in metal lettering.
