Auction Catalogue: Great Central Railwayana, 12 July 2008
| Lot 55 |
A Great Western Railway emergency Train Staff with an ornate wooden polished handle and brass shaft, which is engraved "GW", overall 14_" long. This staff was used where a breakdown of the normal single line equipment had occurred, possibly utilising the staff and ticket system. The absence of a location meant that it could be used flexibly on any single line thus keeping the traffic moving. One example would have been provided in each division.
