Auction Catalogue: Great Central Railwayana, 12 July 2008
| Lot 83 | A Great Central Railway Tyers Permissive double line Block Instrument, with twin needles indicating "Train On Line/Line Closed/Line Clear", the descriptions repeated in a glazed aperture above the commutator. The instrument has a pair of large trafolite plates "UP GOODS BLOCK TO ROTHERWOOD" and "DOWN GOODS BLOCK FROM ROTHERWOOD", in addition a brass plate is fitted to the right "OPEN AT LINE CLOSED ONLY". The instrument is in excellent condition and complete with commutator with white glass bead, brass plunger on the right-hand side and additional relay case to the rear, secured with a brass padlock. Rotherwood was situated south east of Sheffield on the Woodhead Electric route, where exchange sidings were provided for freight traffic. |
