Auction Catalogue: Great Central Railwayana, 4 October 2008
| Lot 3 |
A Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway pull bar Platform Ticket Machine, a compact free standing design rather than the usual taller examples, it retains its original enamel plates "LANCASHIRE & YORKSHIRE Co, PLATFORM TICKETS 1d, TO BE GIVEN UP TO COLLECTOR", black and red on white with a pointing hand at the right side, a further plate is mounted below "PENNIES ONLY", between the two an engraved brass plate "PRESS PENNY IN SLOT AND PULL HANDLE, BENT OR BATTERED COINS MUST NOT BE USED" and a pointing hand and the word "SLOT". The front has cast floral decoration to the front with the original green paintwork with gold lining. It is complete with keys and in full working order, a bit of chipping to the ends of the enamel plates, though the lettering unaffected. A superb example.
