Lot 19 A London Brighton and South Coast Railway brass stamp "L.B.S.C. Ry, BRAMBER STATION", from the first station on the Shoreham to Christ's Hospital route, which closed on 7th March 1966. The oval brass head is 1 1/4"x 3/4", with a turned and polished wooden handle, overall 3 1/2" high. These stamps were supplied by the G.P.O. to stations with telegraph offices for use on telegrams. They were often used for other purposes such as cancellation of railway letter stamps. The catalogue image has been reversed to show the stamp as it would appear when used.
