Great Central Railwayana Auctions

Auction Catalogue: Great Central Railwayana, 25 April 2009

Lot 47 A locomotive nameplate "SEATON", from the Southern Railway "West Country" Class 4-6-2 No 21C120 built at Brighton in December 1945 and named shortly afterwards before entering revenue earning service. It became BR 34020 and was never rebuilt, retaining its streamlined casing until the end. It was appropriately allocated initially to Exmouth Junction but had no sooner reached the West Country than it was transferred to the Eastern Section, first at Ramsgate and then Stewarts Lane where it was specifically designated to work the "Golden Arrow". After further newly built West Countries arrived at Stewarts Lane, however, "Seaton" was transferred back to Exmouth Junction. Into BR days it moved to Nine Elms but returned to Exmouth Junction from where it was withdrawn in September 1964. After three months in store at its home shed, it was cut up at Birds, Morriston, Swansea the following December. A rare opportunity to acquire a full set of plates in ex loco condition from a Bulleid light pacific. The nameplate is 49" long. (3)
 This lot sold for £20000
