A Highland Railway guards cap with the company's decorative initials applied to a black band in gold wire, the band in turn decorated with woven thistles. There is further gold decoration to the top, base and rim; the inside of the cap retains its original makers label "James Smith and Co, Clothing Contractors, London and Derby". Excellent condition and accompanied by a contemporary framed photograph of a Highland guard wearing the cap, overall 22"x26". (2)
