Lot 1 A pair of "tartan" carriage boards, "THE ROYAL SCOT" and "LONDON - GLASGOW", cream lettering on dark green background with tartan pattern, with the English rose and Scottish thistle emblem at each end, both are 132" long and in excellent original condition. (2) - Sold for £1650 Lot 2 A single line key token, "INSTOW - BIDEFORD", (alloy), from the London and South Western Railway's Barnstaple Junction to Torrington route, on the shores of the River Torridge. Passenger services were withdrawn on 4th October 1965, though freight continued until 1982. - Sold for £300 Lot 3 A Highland Railway timetable holder, gilt on brown leather, "THE HIGHLAND RAILWAY, TIME TABLE, THE DIRECT ROYAL MAIL ROUTE TO THE HIGHLANDS VIA PERTH & DUNKELD" (with gilt coat of arms), the inside features vignettes of Killiecrankie, Dunkeld, Taymouth Castle (Aberfeldy) & Strathpeffer, text stating that the Company will supply timetables and be pleased if they are placed conveniently for reference, etc. Superb condition, 7 1/4"x11", with just a couple of insignificant marks. - Sold for £400 Lot 4 A locomotive worksplate, "LMS BUILT 1930, HORWICH". Locos built that year were all LMS Class 4 2-6-0 "Crabs" Nos 13130-49 which were renumbered 2830-49 in 1934, becoming BR 42830-49. Cast brass oval, 103/8"x6", original condition with black paintwork. - Sold for £250 Lot 5 A large and impressive scale model of a Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway signal with home and distant arms, ground frame and wiring, scale 1" = 1 foot. It was built by John Vaughn Berry of Silverdale, Lancashire around 1929 and mounted on a wooden base. A description plate has been added to the base and a plate glass case fitted, overall 36" high, 21" wide and 10" deep. Berry was an uncle of the author and historian James Boyd. The model is of the highest quality. - Sold for £2000 Lot 6 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "PEAK FOREST, FOR PEAK DALE", (f/f), from the Midland Railway's Derby to Manchester main line, the station being situated between Chinley and Miller's Dale. The route closed on 6th March 1967. An uncommon example in excellent condition, a wonderful name. Excellent colour and shine. - Sold for £2000 Lot 7 An enamel sign, "LMS, CAR PARK", black on yellow, 43 3/4"x11", the company initials within a roundel to the left and an arrow at the right, superb condition. - Sold for £190 Lot 8 A Great Western Railway Hotels silver plated circular tray by Elkington, with the full coat of arms in the centre and patterned background, 12" diameter, excellent condition. - Sold for £160 Lot 9 An LMS station direction sign, "LMS STATION, KINGS NORTON", from the Midland Railway's Birmingham to Bristol route, the station being situated between Barnt Green and Bournville. Black on yellow enamel, double sided, within its original aluminium frame with integral bracket for telegraph post, excellent condition. - Sold for £280 Lot 10 A BR(M) maroon enamel doorplate, "STATION MASTER", (f/f), excellent colour and shine. - Sold for £340 Lot 11 A pair of Great Northern Railway enamel signal box instrument plates: (a) "CUTLERS JUNCTION", near Bradford, where the routes to Shipley, Dewsbury, Leeds and Bradford diverge; and (b) "WORTLEY SOUTH", a junction south of Leeds where the route from Wakefield splits for Leeds and Bradford. Both black on white, 7"x1" with rounded ends, chipping to the top of the Wortley example. (2) - Sold for £70 Lot 12 A shedplate "36B", Mexborough (1949 to February 1958). This ex GCR shed was home to 120 locos during the 1950s. It was re-coded 41F in 1958 and closed to steam in February 1964. The plate is in ex loco condition with original paintwork. - Sold for £160 Lot 13 A Tyers No 6 single line tablet, "TUFTS JUNCTION - LYDNEY TOWN", (fibre), from the Great Western and Midland's Severn and Wye Joint Railway in the Forest of Dean. Although passenger services were withdrawn on 8th July 1929, freight continued until 1976. - Sold for £200 Lot 14 An LMS chamber pot by Dunn Bennett, with a gilt coat of arms on the side "LONDON MIDLAND & SCOTTISH RAILWAY COMPANY" and a scroll below "CENTRAL STATION HOTEL, GLASGOW", further gilt decoration to rim, base and handle, an impressive example. - Sold for £300 Lot 15 A smokebox numberplate, "30021" from the London & South Western Railway M7 Class 0-4-4T No 21 built at Nine Elms Works in January 1904 and fitted with auto-train gear in 1930. It retained its LSWR number in SR days, becoming BR 30021. In the 1930s it was allocated to Bournemouth and in BR days to Horsham, then Guildford, but for most of its time at Exmouth Junction before finishing its days at Salisbury from where it was withdrawn in March 1964. After four months in store at Salisbury, it was cut up at Wards, Briton Ferry the following July. For most spotters in the 1950s and early 1960s 30021 was notable as the first number in their Southern Region ABC as the earlier numbers were all gone by 1951. The plate is in ex loco condition with original paintwork. - Sold for £400 Lot 16 A locomotive nameplate, "BENACHIE", from the Great North of Scotland Railway Class F, LNER Class D40, 4-4-0 built at Inverurie in September 1921, GNSR No 46, LNER 6846, renumbered 2274 in 1946, becoming BR 62274. The loco was named when built after the mountain dominating much of Aberdeenshire. Sadly the nameplates were removed in 1954 and replaced by painted names similar to the North British classes, but these did not survive long as the loco was withdrawn from Keith in September 1955. A curved plate, 38 1/2" long, with scalloped corners, the front repainted green. - Sold for £14200 Lot 17 A BR(Sc) light blue totem sign, "BALLINDALLOCH", (f/f), from the Great North of Scotland Railway's Spey Valley line from Craigellachie to Boat of Garten, which closed on 18th October 1965. Excellent colour and shine a couple of tiny edge chips. - Sold for £2300 Lot 18 A locomotive worksplate, "THE BALDWIN LOCOMOTIVE WORKS, 72313, PHILA, U.S.A. OCT 1945", from a standard gauge SNCF Class 141-R 2-8-2 No 500. A coal burner, it was shedded at Boulogne for a period and withdrawn in 1970. Cast brass, 14 3/4"x95/8", in ex loco condition, the "BLW" emblem displayed in the top centre of the plate. - Sold for £660 Lot 19 A cast aluminium road sign, "LOW BRIDGE", with the maker's name "Franco Signs Ltd" at the base, 12 1/4"x21", the front repainted, the back in original condition. - Sold for £65 Lot 20 A BR(M) maroon enamel signal box nameboard, "SHAP SUMMIT", (f/f). One of the most famous locations on the West Coast Main Line. 72"x12", excellent colour, slight loss of shine. - Sold for £13400 Lot 21 A Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway 10" dial dropcase wall clock with a fusee movement, the original face marked "LYR 872". It is complete with a spun brass bezel, pendulum, key and doors to the side and base, while the top bears a small metal plate with the number "872" stamped in and a second plate stamped "WIGAN". A good example in fine original condition. - Sold for £2400 Lot 22 An LMS silver plated desk top bell, from a hotel reception, 4 3/4" diameter, the top marked with the full company name and coat of arms. - Sold for £220 Lot 23 A carriage board, "BIRMINGHAM (NEW ST) / CREWE", cream on maroon paintwork, 32" long with thin steel strips at the ends. - Sold for £110 Lot 24 A BR(S) light green totem sign, "THORNTON HEATH", (f/f), from the London Brighton and South Coast Railway's main line between East Croydon and Clapham Junction. Excellent colour and shine, one tiny edge chip just into the green. - Sold for £1550 Lot 25 A Great Western Railway cast iron nameboard, "CRAY STATION SOUTH GROUND FRAME". The station was on the Neath and Brecon Railway and situated west of Brecon between Craig-y-Nos and Devynock. 21"x4" with feet each end, constructed so that the sign sits at 45 degrees. The line closed in 1962. - Sold for £210 Lot 26 An LMS Hotels Hock glass with a pink hue to the stem and base, 8" high, the company name on a frosted panel. - Sold for £150 Lot 27 A BR(W), chocolate and cream lamp tablet, "IVER", from the Great Western Railway's Paddington to Reading main line. No totems have been offered for sale and it is notoriously difficult to find signs from this station. Good colour and shine, slight discolouration to the lettering, 20"x6", with top flange. - Sold for £480 Lot 28 A locomotive headboard, "THE CALEDONIAN" as used on the Anglo-Scottish service from Euston to Glasgow (Central) which was introduced in June 1957 and ran until September 1964, this style of headboard being carried from 1958 to 1961. Ex loco condition, 59" long surmounted by twin shields depicting the crosses of St Andrew on the left and St George on the right, plenty of signs of use over many years. - Sold for £4000 Lot 29 An industrial locomotive nameplate, "LOUISE", with its matching worksplate, "PECKETT & SONS, BRISTOL, 1902, No 970", from a 0-4-0ST O/C which went new to Warner & Co Ltd, Iron Refiners at Cargo Fleet where it spent all its working life. It was rebuilt by R Shaw in 1931 and again in 1952 and withdrawn in 1963. The nameplate cast brass, 24"x6 1/2", the front repainted red, the back untouched, the worksplate engraved brass oval, 10 3/4"x7 1/4", the front polished and the lettering picked out in red. (2). - Sold for £1100 Lot 30 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "FORMBY", (f/f), from the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's Liverpool to Southport route, a popular golfing area close to the coast. Excellent colour and shine a couple of minor edge chips only. - Sold for £500 Lot 31 A BR(S) signal box diagram, "FAWLEY", 1959, showing the station, level crossing, ground frames "A", "B" and "C" and the line towards Marchwood, with table of locking for box and three ground frames. The box was at the terminus of the branch from Totton which closed to passengers on 14th February 1966, it remains open for oil traffic, albeit with more basic signalling. Multicoloured, rolled and in fine condition, 30"x21". - Sold for £120 Lot 32 A smokebox numberplate, "6336" from a GWR 43XX Class 2-6-0 "Mogul" built at Swindon in May 1921 and allocated new to Bristol. It was at Tyseley by the end of its GWR days and later moved to Oxford, Swindon and finally Machynlleth from where it was withdrawn in April 1962 and cut up at Swindon Works four months later. Ex loco condition with original paintwork. - Sold for £720 Lot 33 A carriage print, "SOUTH PORTALS OF PRIMROSE HILL TUNNELS, LONDON", by Claude Buckle, from the BR(M) Railway Architecture Series. A fine view of the decorative entrance built by the London and Birmingham Railway, close to Euston. - Sold for £85 Lot 34 A CLC hanging office lamp with vessel, brass burner, glass chimney and a superb brass plate "CHESHIRE LINES, ALTCAR", a station on the branch to Southport Lord Street which closed on 7th January 1952 with some freight from the south continuing until 1960. (The image shows the lamp without its glass chimney, as it was necessary to photograph it leaning at an angle.) - Sold for £230 Lot 35 An enamel advertising sign, "GUINNESS IS GOOD FOR YOU", multicoloured, featuring the famous toucan balancing two pints on his bill, 16"x24", double sided, a small chip one side and slightly larger in the same position on the other. - Sold for £350 Lot 36 A shedplate "12B", Carlisle Upperby (1935 to June 1950), then Carlisle Canal (June 1950 to July 1951), then Penrith (October 1955 to February 1958) and finally Carlisle Upperby (February 1958 to closure to steam in January 1968). This code is probably best known for its use as Carlisle Upperby, the ex LNWR shed having around 90 locos at the height of its importance. The ex NBR shed at Canal had the distinction of having four A3s and five D49s carrying this LMR code among its 60 occupants. Out of use between 1951 and 1955, only six locos at Penrith carried 12B until Upperby regained it in 1958. The plate is in ex loco condition. - Sold for £200 Lot 37 An enamel medallion, "LM&S RLY, A.A.A, NORTH STAFFS SECTION", text in blue enamel outer ring, in the centre a plain "gold" shield on silver, the back hallmarked and engraved "LADIES SINGLES CHAMPIONSHIP 1931", excellent condition, 1" diameter with ring. - Sold for £60 Lot 38 A Furness Railway three aspect handlamp with a large embossed brass plate "MESSENGERS PATENT CORRUGATED LAMP" with the royal coat of arms above, on the left side a brass plate "WRAYSHOLME CROSSING". The lamp has its internal fittings, BR (FR style) vessel, but lacks one glass. The crossing box was between Kents Bank and Cark and Cartmel, on the Carnforth to Barrow line. - Sold for £720 Lot 39 A London and North Western Railway brass fronted semaphore signal repeater with arm on post and on/wrong indicators. The front is engraved "L&NWR ELECTRICAL & SIGNAL DEPT, CREWE, No 3145". Height 8 1/4". - Sold for £340 Lot 40 An "LMS CARS" silver plated sauce boat by Mappin and Webb, the company name engraved in prominent double border lettering. - Sold for £40 Lot 41 A makers plate, "JOHN FOWLER & Co (LEEDS) LTD, LEEDS, ENGLAND, No 14019, UNDER 11 TONS", from a Class A7 compound traction engine with sprung rear wheels, new to Henry Massey, Little Leigh, Cheshire in September 1914. By January 1921 it was with Robert Brechin & Sons, Linlithgow, registered for road use as SS 900. By 1932 it was with A&J Stewart, Aberdour, Fife, sold in 1943 to Braid & Nicholson, Kirkcaldy and in 1956 to C Lyons, Kinross and presumed scrapped. Engraved brass oval, 9 1/2"x4 3/4", the front polished the back in original condition - Sold for £360 Lot 42 A BR(W) chocolate and cream totem sign, "OSWESTRY", (h/f), from the Cambrian Railway's Whitchurch to Welshpool route. The station closed on 7th November 1966. Excellent colour though some lose of shine - Sold for £760 Lot 43 A single line key token, "STRATHCARRON - KYLE", (brass), the final section of the Highland Railway's Dingwall and Skye line, with its panoramic views of Loch Carron. - Sold for £400 Lot 44 A Highland Railway wooden "scissors" signal arm, 37" long, with original paintwork. A rare survivor albeit lacking its spectacle plate. - Sold for £50 Lot 45 A cast iron notice, "GREAT WESTERN & GREAT CENTRAL RYS JOINT COMMITTEE.....Concerning The Practice Of Propping Up Wagon Doors" and signed "DE WAGENRIEDER, SECRETARY". It refers to the GW & GC in the text, otherwise it follows the general G.W.R. pattern. 14 1/2" square, superb original condition. - Sold for £840 Lot 46 A Southern Railway carriage print, "THE SOUTH DOWNS, NEAR LEWES, SUSSEX", by Donald Maxwell, from the original SR Series, a panoramic view of the area. The print has only been offered twice previously. - Sold for £270 Lot 47 A GWR wooden leaflet rack with three compartments and shaped pediment, with gilt lettering "GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY PUBLICATIONS" and at the base "PLEASE TAKE ONE". - Sold for £520 Lot 48 A single line one engine in steam train staff "CLYNDERWEN - MAENCLOCHOG", from the Great Western Railway's North Pembrokeshire and Fishguard line. Passenger services ceased on 25th October 1937, the central section of the line closed completely in 1943, with this section remaining until 1949. The staff is of traditional GWR pattern with a wooden body and steel cap at each end, with key, handle and an engraved brass plate. - Sold for £1050 Lot 49 A locomotive nameplate, "QUEEN ELIZABETH", from the Class 7P (later 8P) "Coronation" 4-6-2 No 6221, the second of the Class built at Crewe in Coronation Year 1937 and named after the wife of King George VI, the former Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon, born on 4th August 1900. It was built streamlined in LMS blue livery and, in common with all the first five Coronations, allocated new to Camden in June 1937 but moved north of the border in 1939 to Polmadie where it spent most of its working life. It was repainted red in 1941, de-streamlined early in 1946 and became BR 46221. It moved to Crewe North in 1958 and then Camden, Crewe North again and finally Carlisle Upperby from where it was withdrawn in May 1963, although by that time it had already been in store at Upperby since the previous November. It was cut up at Crewe Works in July 1963. 71 1/2" long, the front repainted black and the brass polished, the back is in completely original condition, while the edge retains its original chrome plating. - Sold for £51500 Lot 50 A North British Railway brass cased semaphore signal repeater with a red home arm on a finialed post (white dot, rather than stripe). The instrument has a curved top and is stamped 1839 on the front and back and also N.B.R.Co on the back. - Sold for £580 Lot 51 A BR(Sc) light blue totem sign, "FORRES", (h/f), from the Highland Railway's Inverness to Keith Junction (and Aberdeen) route. The station was once junction for the Aviemore line which closed on 18th October 1965. Excellent colour though lose of shine - Sold for £620 Lot 52 A locomotive builders plate, "THE CLAYTON EQUIPMENT Co LTD, RECORD WORKS, HATTON, DERBY, ENGLAND, SERIAL No 4365/B (46) DATE (1962)", as carried on the bogie of a BR/Clayton Class 17 Bo-Bo D8545 which went new to Haymarket in September 1963. It was withdrawn from Polmadie in October 1971 and cut up at BREL, Glasgow in November 1973. Cast aluminium rectangle, 7 1/2"x3 3/4", the top left corner absent; otherwise the plate is in fine ex loco condition. - Sold for £190 Lot 53 A Great Western Railway cast iron signal box nameboard, "ST MELLONS WEST". The box was situated east of Cardiff between Pengam Junction and Marshfield. 65 1/2" long, a little loss around top left bolt hole, otherwise original condition. - Sold for £300 Lot 54 A Great Western Railway brass cabside numberplate, "4410", from a 4400 Class 2-6-2T, built at Swindon in June 1906, the last of a Class of only eleven locos, and originally numbered 3110. By 1921 it was allocated to Princetown and, both then and in later life, achieved fame as a regular engine on the famous branch across Dartmoor. Its final GWR shed was Exeter and it later moved to Laira from where it was withdrawn in September 1955. Two other class members succumbed at this time, making them the last three in service. The front repainted, the back in original condition and clearly stamped "3110" in the centre. - Sold for £4400 Lot 55 A B.R. double arrows emblem from class 47 47901, built at Crewe in 1962 as D1628, renumbered 47046 in 1973. The engine was involved in an accident north of Peterborough the following year and due to the nature of the damage was selected as a test bed for the proposed class 56 type loco, fitted with a 3,250 bhp engine and renumbered 47601. With this role completed, the process was repeated with a 3,300 bhp engine as a test for the class 58 locos. It retained this non-standard engine until withdrawn in 1990. In 1987 it was transferred to Trainload Construction sector and fitted with this unique design of emblem utilizing dome head rivets, all other examples using the flush fitting type. The loco was cut up at MC Metals. Glasgow Works in February 1992. - Sold for £220 Lot 56 An Annets key, "DINGWALL NORTH GATES", (brass), from the Highland Railway's Ross-shire Junction where the routes to Wick and Kyle diverge. - Sold for £50 Lot 57 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "ROCK FERRY", (h/f), from the Great Western and LMS Joint Line used by Paddington to Birkenhead expresses, the last stop before arriving at Woodside terminus. Excellent colour and shine, some face chipping, mainly small, filled and repainted. - Sold for £500 Lot 58 A London Brighton and South Coast Railway brass stamp, "POLEGATE STATION LB&SCRy" from the Brighton to Eastbourne route and junction for Eridge. The oval brass head is 1 1/4"x 3/4", with a turned and polished wooden handle, overall 3 1/2" high. These stamps were supplied by the GPO to stations with telegraph offices for use on telegrams, they were often utilised for other purposes such as cancellation of railway letter stamps. The catalogue image has been reversed to show the stamp as it would appear when used. - Sold for £170 Lot 59 An LMS restaurant car wine bottle holder from the "Coronation Scot" set, brass, wall mounted to hold two bottles, two monograms on the front and edge decoration to match the silverware, the holder was originally chromed or silver plated, 8"x4". - Sold for £90 Lot 60 A locomotive worksplate, "LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY, 63425, ARMSTRONG WHITWORTH, 1920", from a North Eastern Railway Class T1, LNER Q6 Class, 0-8-0 built in March 1920, Armstrong Whitworth Works No 16. It was NER/LNER No 2268, renumbered 3425 in 1946, becoming BR 63425. In BR days its sheds were Haverton Hill, Selby and Tyne Dock from where it was withdrawn in April 1963 to be cut up at Darlington Works the following month. Cast brass oval, 9"x5", in sooty ex loco condition. - Sold for £620 Lot 61 A BR(NE) tangerine totem sign, "SEAMER", (f/f), with black edged lettering, from the North Eastern Railway's York to Scarborough main line, the junction for Hull and Pickering. Excellent colour though some lose of shine, one chip to left of the letter "A" has been repainted - Sold for £1000 Lot 62 A large Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway serving plate with a belted garter at the top, "RAILWAY REFRESHMENT ROOMS, EXCHANGE STATION L'POOL", while in the centre a magnificent coat of arms featuring Neptune and the Liver Bird, "MERCHANTS COFFEE DINING ROOMS, LANCASTER BUILDINGS, EXCHANGE ST EAST, LIVERPOOL", 17"x13 1/2". The plate is by Davenports and the mark in the back indicates it was made in 1852, two years after the station opened. It was used by the company's catering contractors (see Lewis Jones, page 54) and has blue and black bands and a little restoration to the outer blue, still a magnificent early piece and an amazing survivor. - Sold for £1050 Lot 63 An oval brass key tag engraved "LMS TOWEL TRUCK, LIME ST, LIVERPOOL", 2"x1", with a brass ring and a steel "LNWR" key attached, used in connection with the supply of towels for trains and sleepers. - Sold for £150 Lot 64 A Tyers No 6 single line tablet, "SUDBURY-CHAPPEL", (alloy) from the Great Eastern Railway's Marks Tey to Sudbury branch which extended to Bury St Edmunds and Cambridge. - Sold for £110 Lot 65 An LMS enamel notice, "LONDON MIDLAND AND SCOTTISH RAILWAY, TAKE NOTICE THAT ANY PERSON FOUND DAMAGING THE ADVERTISEMENTS OR POSTERS EXHIBITED ON ANY PART OF THIS STATION WILL BE LIABLE TO PROSECUTION, AND TAKE FURTHER NOTICE THAT A REWARD OF 5/- WILL BE PAID TO ANY PERSON GIVING INFORMATION WHICH LEADS TO THE CONVICTION OF THE OFFENDER, BY ORDER", white on blue, 24"x12", excellent colour and shine, a few edge chips and wear and one chip on left, otherwise a good example of this rare sign. - Sold for £360 Lot 66 An "LMS HOTELS" silver plated scallop dish by Mappin and Webb, 6", shaped to resemble a scallop shell, the company name in block motif on the handle, excellent usable condition. - Sold for £110 Lot 67 A BR(W) chocolate and cream station sign, "SWINDON & LONDON TRAINS", (f/f), with feathered arrow, excellent colour and shine, 36"x24". The sign was used on the Cirencester branch platform at Kemble station. - Sold for £320 Lot 68 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "HESKETH PARK", (h/f), from the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's Southport to Preston line, which closed to passengers on 7th September 1964. Excellent colour and reasonable shine, a few minor face marks. - Sold for £3400 Lot 69 A locomotive worksplate, "LMS, BUILT 1899 ST ROLLOX", from a Caledonian Railway 0-6-0 No 827 which became LMS Class 3F 17565 and BR 57565. It finished its days at Dalry Road from where it was withdrawn in December 1962. After a period in store at Dalry Road, it was cut up at Inverurie Works in August 1963. Cast brass oval, 10 1/2"x6", the front repainted red, the back stamped with the loco details, "Caley 827, LMS 17565, BR 57565". - Sold for £220 Lot 70 A single line key token, "MACHYNLLETH - CEMMES RD", (alloy), from the Cambrian Railway's route east to Moat Lane Junction, this section running through the valley of the River Dovey. The token is presented in a large GWR folding hoop, as used for automatic exchange. - Sold for £280 Lot 71 A cab warning notice from a BR(W) Warship Class diesel hydraulic, "LOW ENTRANCE, MIND YOUR HEAD", aluminium 17 1/4"x5 3/4", engraved lettering, ex loco condition. - Sold for £110 Lot 72 A carriage print, "THE LLEDR VALLEY NEAR BETWS-Y-COED, NORTH WALES", featuring an early green DMU in mountainous countryside on the branch from Llandudno Junction to Blaenau Festiniog. The print is presented in an original compartment frame. - Sold for £140 Lot 73 An LMS "Hawskeye" target sign, "RIPPLE", from the Midland Railway's Ashchurch to Malvern branch. The station closed on 14th August 1961, although freight lasted another two years. The sign was repainted shortly after it was acquired in the 1960s and is accompanied by a photograph of it in situ. This is the first example from the station to be offered at auction. - Sold for £350 Lot 74 A locomotive worksplate, "YORKSHIRE ENGINE Co LIMITED, No 2688, MEADOW HALL WORKS, 1959, SHEFFIELD" from a 0-4-0 diesel electric, YE Type DE2, which went new to Templeborough Steelworks in close proximity to its Sheffield building place and, following withdrawal, it went to the South Yorkshire preservation site, also at Meadowhall. Possibly a unique situation where a loco was built, worked and preserved, all within a square mile or so. It later moved to the Rutland Railway Museum but, unfortunately, was subsequently scrapped. Cast brass oval, 11"x6", the front background repainted. - Sold for £65 Lot 75 A Glasgow and South Western Railway four aspect "Bulpitt's Patent" fogman's handlamp, complete with all glass and fittings including the green rather than blue glass, "GSWR" on the side and small "1906" maker's plate. Excellent condition with copper bezel and cone, the side stamped "2415". - Sold for £290 Lot 76 A Great Western Railway teacup with brown coat of arms and scrolls "GWR, REFRESHMENT DEPARTMENT" and below "SWINDON", brown decoration to the handle and rim, a fine example albeit with some professional restoration. - Sold for £80 Lot 77 A smokebox numberplate, "69552", from a LNER N2/2 Class 0-6-2T No 2585 built by Beyer Peacock, Works No 6212, in 1925, renumbered 9552 in 1946, becoming BR 69552. In its BR days its sheds were Colwick, Hatfield, Kings Cross, Parkeston, Hornsey and Grantham from where it was withdrawn in May 1960 and cut up at Doncaster Works the following month. The front of the plate has been repainted. - Sold for £620 Lot 78 A Great Western Railway wooden fingerboard from Birmingham Snow Hill, "TYSELEY, SOLIHULL, KNOWLE AND DORRIDGE, LAPWORTH, CLAVERDON, BEARLEY, STRATFORD-UPON-AVON, HONEYBOURNE", with arrow, cream on chocolate paintwork, double sided and in fine original condition. - Sold for £520 Lot 79 A Tyers No 6 single line tablet, "CARGO FLEET INNER JUNC - FLATTS LANE", (brass/steel), a section on the Cleveland Railway which ran from Normanby Jetty on the Tees to Skiningrove. The central section of the route with its inclines closed in 1873, with this section remaining as part of the branch to Eston (opened in 1902). Passenger services were short lived with closure in 1929 and freight lasting until 1966. - Sold for £620 Lot 80 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "WINSLOW", (f/f), from the London and North Western Railway's Oxford to Cambridge route which closed to passengers on 1st January 1968. Excellent colour and shine, one tiny chip repainted on the upper white line. - Sold for £800 Lot 81 A shedplate "87G", Carmarthen (1949 to April 1964). This ex GWR shed was home to 40 locos during the 1950s. In the early 1960s it housed five Manors and, surprisingly, the same number of ex WD 2-8-0s. The plate has been repainted and the back later stripped. - Sold for £180 Lot 82 A locomotive worksplate, "W.G.BAGNALL LTD, STAFFORD, ENGLAND, ENGINEERS, No 2931", from a (GWR) 9400 Class 0-6-0PT No 8421 allocated new to Exeter in July 1950. It moved later to Truro, Swindon and Gloucester from where it was withdrawn in December 1959. After almost a year in store at Swindon Works, it was cut up at Cashmores, Newport in December 1960. Cast brass oval, 8"x53/8", probably original condition, with number noted on back prior to fitting. - Sold for £280 Lot 83 A single line key token, "KNIGHTON No 2 - LLANGUNLLO", (alloy), from the northern end of the London and North Western Railway's "Central Wales" line. - Sold for £75 Lot 84 A Great Western Railway wooden cased semaphore signal repeater with a red home arm on a chromed and finialed post with on/wrong/off positions, a brass plate below "40, 41, 42", excellent original condition. - Sold for £320 Lot 85 A BR(S) dark green enamel signal box Nameboard, "DORKING TOWN", (f/f), from the South Eastern Railway's Redhill to Guildford route, excellent colour and reasonable shine, 78"x12". A difficult station from which to obtain signs, it never carried totems and only one target has ever been offered for sale. - Sold for £620 Lot 86 A brass locomotive chime whistle from a BR standard class "Britannia", 70027 "Rising Star", 12 3/4" high, 4 1/2" diameter, cleaned and polished. - Sold for £1600 Lot 87 An enamel advertising sign, "ST RAPHAEL QUINQUINA, en vente ici", a striking design in red, black and green on white, promoting this popular drink, 44"x17 1/2", (f/f), with a few minor edge chips. The sign was used at Cherbourg station. - Sold for £50 Lot 88 A shedplate "32B", Ipswich (1949 to October 1959 for steam, 1988 totally). This ex GER shed housed ten B17 Sandringhams in its 1950s allocation of almost 100 locos. It still had 50 steam locos on its books when it finally became a "diesel only" depot in 1959. Many Class 31 diesels also carried cast 32B plates. Thin lettering, the front probably repainted. - Sold for £100 Lot 89 A locomotive nameplate, "OWEN GLENDOWER", from the BR Standard Class 7 "Britannia" 4-6-2 No 70010 built at Crewe in May 1951 and named when built after the Welsh Chief (1350-1414) who conducted war against the English on the border between England and Wales. It was allocated new to Norwich but soon moved to March and later to Willesden, Crewe North, Crewe South and finally Carlisle Upperby from where it was withdrawn in September 1967 and cut up at J McWilliam, Shettleston the following January. Cast brass, 60" long, the plate is in lovely ex loco condition with original red paintwork. - Sold for £14000 Lot 90 A BR(Sc) light blue totem sign, "WICK", (f/f), from the Highland Railway's Caithness Terminus of the Far North line from Inverness. The station is the most distant from London to carry totems. Reasonable colour though loss of shine, a crease repair each side filled and well colour matched, the letters unaffected. - Sold for £500 Lot 91 A Great Northern Railway balloon back waiting room chair in superb restored condition with polished wood and green upholstery, the company initials clearly marked underneath. - Sold for £260 Lot 92 A BR(S) dark green enamel doorplate, "LADIES ROOM", (f/f), excellent colour and shine. - Sold for £130 Lot 93 A BR(M) maroon enamel sign, "NO ENTRANCE, PASSENGERS MUST ENTER THE STATION PREMISES BY THE TICKET HALL". The sign measures 13"x9" and is fully flanged, it has a couple of small face chip repairs and a bit of surface wear, a rare wording. - Sold for £130 Lot 94 A Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway three aspect handlamp, the body stamped "LYR" and "DARWEN" also "BRADFORD", complete with all fittings including BR(M) embossed vessel, while the rear brass catch is stamped with the company initials, cleaned but not repainted. - Sold for £180 Lot 95 A carriage board, "HIRWAIN / MERTHYR", cream on maroon paintwork, 32" long with thin steel strips at the ends, one corner damaged and repaired. - Sold for £460 Lot 96 A Great Western Railway brass signal box shelf plate, "TO PREESGWEENE", from the Shrewsbury to Chester main line. Preesgweene was situated between Gobowen and Chirk, it was renamed Weston Rhyn in 1935. 4 3/4"x1 1/2", a lovely old example. - Sold for £150 Lot 97 An LMS Hotels china milk jug with black and gold leaf decoration to the rim, the side marked "GLENEAGLES HOTEL", 5 1/2" high. - Sold for £160 Lot 98 A shedplate "5E", Alsager (1935 to June 1962), then Nuneaton (September 1963 to June 1966). The ex NSR shed at Alsager had an allocation of around 18 locos towards the end of its life. The ex LNWR shed at Nuneaton, formerly 2B, had nearly 40 locos during the period it used this code. The plate is in ex loco condition and is an LMS style casting. - Sold for £230 Lot 99 A Hammersmith & City coat of arms transfer from the side of a carriage, "H & C, GREAT WESTERN, METROPOLITAN JOINT STOCK", gold initials on a decorative olive green background, the wording in three shaded scrolls below. The steel plate has a chocolate background and is held in a wooden frame, 20 3/4"x16 1/4", in original condition. The company operated the route from Westbourne Park to Hammersmith. - Sold for £210 Lot 100 A pair of silver plated "LMS HOTELS" asparagus tongs by Mappin and Webb, 8" long, complete with guide for the top tong and decoration to the blades, the company name is in a wedge-shaped panel on a ribbed background. - Sold for £90 Lot 101 A BR(Sc) light blue totem sign, "GLENFARG", (f/f), from the North British Railway's Mawcarse Junction to Bridge of Earn section of the main line to Perth and the North. The station closed on 15th June 1964. Excellent colour and shine. - Sold for £1650 Lot 102 A locomotive worksplate, "NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE COMPANY LTD GLASGOW, 1918, QUEENS PARK WORKS, No 22043", from a 2-8-0 based on the Great Central O4 Class, built to Ministry of Munitions order for the Railway Operating Division of the Royal Engineers and delivered to the ROD in December 1918, ROD No 1985. It immediately went into service in France but returned to the UK in November 1919 when it was loaned to the GWR and was numbered 3051. It was returned to the ROD in 1921, purchased by the GWR 1925, becoming GWR 3082, and withdrawn in 1930. Cast brass diamond, 12 3/4"x5 1/4", the front cleaned and repainted, the back in fine untouched condition. - Sold for £320 Lot 103 A BR(S) double royal poster, "ROYAL TUNBRIDGE WELLS, one hour by train from London and the south coast", by Durman (AD7275/825/57/8). A colourful street scene with the town's name displayed on a shop sign, rolled with folds. - Sold for £100 Lot 104 A London and North Western Railway signal box Nameboard, "MOLD TRYDDYN JCT", from the Denbigh to Chester route, the junction for Coed Talon and Brymbo, 82 1/2"x10 1/4", the front repainted maroon with white lettering. - Sold for £300 Lot 105 A Glasgow and South Western Railway signal box route indicator with a needle showing "Main Line, Johnstone (North) or Greenock Line", a little wear to paintwork on the face and lettering. A view of the castle from the opposite bank of the River Trent. - Sold for £90 Lot 109 An Annets key, "HAWTHORNDEN STN", (brass), from the North British Railway's Peebles to Edinburgh route. The station was renamed Rosewell and Hawthornden in 1929 and was situated north west of Hawthornden Junction, where the Penicuik branch diverged. Passenger services ceased on 10th September 1962, with freight lasting until 1967. - Sold for £60 Lot 110 A locomotive nameplate, "YES TOR", from a BR/Brush Type 5 Co-Co Class 60 diesel electric No 60043. Built by Brush at Loughborough, Works No 945, it was delivered new to Stewarts Lane in June 1991. De-named after modification at Brush, it is currently stored at Crewe DED. The loco takes its name from the Tor on Dartmoor, near Okehampton, and is a re-use of the name carried by one of the Bulleid "West Country Class" locos. Cast aluminium, 33 1/2"x9 3/4", with plenty of oxidization on the back. - Sold for £1000 Lot 111 A North British Railway fully titled cast iron trespass notice, referring to the NBR Act of 1894, 26 1/2"x19 1/2", with a fixing lug at the top centre, the front has been repainted. - Sold for £350 Lot 112 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "GRANGE OVER SANDS", (f/f), from the Furness Railway's Carnforth to Barrow route on the northern shores of Morecambe Bay. Excellent colour and shine with a few minor face marks only. - Sold for £1550 Lot 113 A North British Railway signal post finial with a flat square base and a cruciform spike, overall 28 1/2" high with original white paint. - Sold for £150 Lot 114 A Great Western Railway brass stamp "MALVERN (GREAT) STATION, G.W. Ry" from the Worcester to Hereford line. The oval brass head is 1 1/4"x 3/4", with a turned and polished wooden handle, overall 3 1/2" high. These stamps were supplied by the GPO to stations with telegraph offices for use on telegrams, they were often utilised for other purposes such as cancellation of railway letter stamps. The catalogue image has been reversed to show the stamp as it would appear when used. - Sold for £150 Lot 115 A BR(E) dark blue totem sign, "DISS", (h/f), from the Great Eastern Railway's Ipswich to Norwich main line. Excellent colour and reasonable shine, a few minor surface marks. - Sold for £1200 Lot 116 A BR(S) dark green enamel sign, "STATIONS K - Z, SECOND CLASS", (f/f), 24"x18". The sign has a thin flange and front fixings and is in immaculate condition. - Sold for £60 Lot 117 A Southern Railway enamel seat back plate, "CHESSINGTON NORTH", from the new 1938 branch to Chessington South which, but for the outbreak of war the following year, would have extended to Leatherhead. Excellent colour and shine, 48"x3", face and edge chips in the "Chess" area. - Sold for £160 Lot 118 A Webb and Thompson large single line train staff "NANTGAREDIG - GOLDEN GROVE", from the London and North Western Railway's Carmarthen to Llandilo route which closed on 9th September 1963. - Sold for £210 Lot 119 A locomotive worksplate, "MIDLAND RY, REBUILT 1923, DERBY", from a Class 3 (later 3P) 4-4-2T No 2118, a Midland and LMS development of the London Tilbury & Southend Railway 79 Class introduced in 1909. It was renumbered 1936 in 1947, although the number was never carried, and became BR 41936. In BR days its sheds were initially the ex LTSR depots at Plaistow and Tilbury but later Stratford, Colchester and finally Stratford again from where it was withdrawn in July 1958. It was stored first at Stratford and then at Badnalls Wharf, Norton Bridge for almost a year in total before being cut up at Crewe Works in August 1959. Although the loco was built new in 1923, we think that the use of a "Rebuilt" plate may be due to it either being a development of an earlier class or incorporating some parts from an earlier loco. Cast brass oval, 10 1/2"x6", the front repainted maroon, the back in original condition. - Sold for £900 Lot 120 A BR(Sc) light blue enamel doorplate, "GOODS OFFICE ", (f/f), excellent colour and good shine, a tiny chip to the lower right corner. - Sold for £230 Lot 121 A single line key token, "LLANIDLOES - MOAT LANE EAST", (brass/steel), from the Cambrian Railway's Three Cocks Junction to Moat Lane Junction route, through Mid Wales. The line closed to passengers on 31st December 1962, though this northern section remained open for freight for a further five years. - Sold for £980 Lot 122 A Great Western Railway Hotels 3 1/2" silver plated milk jug by Mappin and Webb, the side clearly engraved with the company's full coat of arms, excellent condition. - Sold for £75 Lot 123 A smokebox numberplate, "4250" from a GWR 4200 Class 2-8-0T built at Swindon in April 1916 and allocated new to Newport. By the end of its GWR days it was at Landore and later moved to Duffryn Yard, Cardiff Canton, Aberbeeg and finally Duffryn Yard again from where it was withdrawn in September 1962. Following a year in store at Duffryn Yard, it was cut up at Hayes, Bridgend in September 1963. The plate is in ex loco condition with original paintwork. - Sold for £430 Lot 124 A Midland Railway signal box block bell with tapper, small cow bell and an old ivorine plate, "DOWN GOODS TO NORTH", original condition. - Sold for £80 Lot 125 A BR(Sc) light blue totem sign, "DUNBLANE", (h/f), from the Caledonian Railway's Stirling to Perth main line, once the junction for the route to Oban which closed on 1st November 1965. Reasonable colour though loss of shine. - Sold for £360 Lot 126 An LNER brass whistle from a B1 class locomotive, bell-shaped with wheel, circular base and slide valve at the side, 13 1/2" high, lightly cleaned only. Lot 127 A locomotive nameplate, "LANARKSHIRE YEOMANRY", from the LMS Class 5P5F (later 5) 4-6-0 No 5154 built by Armstrong Whitworth, Works No 1195, in 1935 and named on 8th April 1937 after the volunteer force raised in Central Scotland., one of only four of a Class of 842 locos to receive names. Appropriately, it spent most of its working life at St Rollox before moving south of the Border to Newton Heath in 1957 and much later to Aintree, Lancaster Green Ayre and Speke Junction from where it was withdrawn in November 1966. After five months in store at Speke, it was cut up at Drapers, Hull the following May. The nameplate was cast at St Rollox and has the distinctive style of thinner lettering used by that Works. 49" long, the front repainted red. Originally the nameplate was accompanied by a regimental badge attached to the splasher but this is believed to have been removed some time before the nameplate was taken off. Nevertheless, an opportunity to acquire an example of the rarest Class of LMS nameplate. - Sold for £15200 Lot 128 A Tyers No 6 single line tablet, "MAREHAY CROSSING - DENBY NORTH", (brass), from the Midland Railway's Little Eaton Junction (Derby) to Ripley branch. Passenger services were withdrawn on 1st June 1930 though the line north of Denby (this section) closed in 1968. - Sold for £230 Lot 129 A BR(Sc) light blue enamel station direction sign, "BRITISH RAILWAYS, STATION", with totem at the top and left-handed feathered arrow, excellent colour and shine, a little bit of chipping on the rim. - Sold for £360 Lot 130 An LMS platform lamp with the station name, "GOVILON", displayed on the front, from the London and North Western Railway's Abergavenny Junction to Merthyr route which closed on the 6th January 1958. It is complete with its reflectors, vessel, burner and glass chimney. - Sold for £780 Lot 131 A shedplate "64B", Haymarket (1949 to September 1963 for steam). This ex NBR shed's star filled allocation in 1959 numbered 5 A1s, 10 A2s, 15 A3s, 7 A4s, 4 B1 namers, 6 D11s, 4 D 49s and 2 named J36s. This left only 16 un-named engines in a total of 73! Its allocation of Deltics would also carry this code at some time in their life. The plate has been repainted. - Sold for £210 Lot 132 An LMS lamp tablet, "CONISTON", the terminus of the Furness Railway branch from Foxfield which closed to passengers on 6th October 1958 and to freight in 1962. Black on yellow enamel, 17 1/2"x4 1/2", excellent colour and shine, chip repairs just around the screw holes. - Sold for £360 Lot 133 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "BANGOR", (f/f), from the Chester and Holyhead section of the North Wales coast route close to the Menai Strait. Excellent colour and shine - Sold for £800 Lot 134 A Great Western Railway large hexagonal copper goods yard gas lamp lantern, with ornate roof edging, corner finials and a decorative ventilator finial, an On/Off tap at the base, two doors (both working), but lacking glass. The lamp was used at Brettell Lane, in the West Midlands. Potentially a very impressive piece. - Sold for £520 Lot 135 A Great Western Railway cast iron cabside numberplate, "6418", from a 6400 Class 0-6-0PT built at Swindon in December 1934 and allocated new to Stourbridge Junction. It finished its GWR days at Stafford Road and, in BR days, went to Banbury, Stafford Road again for a lengthy spell and finally Stourbridge from where it was withdrawn in November 1962. It was cut up at Cashmores, Great Bridge between March and December 1963. The front repainted, cream on black, the back untouched. - Sold for £940 Lot 136 A Railway Signal Company key token, "BRENT EAST - BRENT WEST", (brass/steel), a section close to the Midland main line in the Cricklewood area. - Sold for £100 Lot 137 An "LMS HOTELS" art deco style teacup and saucer by Newhalls, the initials displayed in a teapot style pictogram. (2) - Sold for £85 Lot 138 An "LMS STEAMERS" small silver plated cream jug by Elkington, 4" high and of ornate design, the company name in laurel leaf surround. - Sold for £75 Lot 139 A carriage board, "INVERNESS / LONDON", cream on maroon paintwork, 32" long with thin steel strips at ends. The board would have been used over the doors on "The Royal Highlander" and the sleepers. - Sold for £160 Lot 140 A BR(S) light green totem sign, "EDENBRIDGE TOWN", (f/f), from the London Brighton and South Coast Railway's Oxted to Lewes and Eastbourne route. Excellent colour and shine, four small edge chips just into the green all filled and colour matched. - Sold for £300 Lot 141 A locomotive nameplate badge from the LMS Class 6 "Royal Scot" 4-6-0, LMS No 6148 "VELOCIPEDE" built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23643, in 1927 and named the following year. The plaque was removed in 1935 when the loco was renamed "The Manchester Regiment" after the LMS decided to bestow regimental names on the 25 Royal Scots which had hitherto carried the names of historical engines with accompanying plaques, and became BR 46148. The badge is engraved with the outline of an early 2-2-2 locomotive and worded "VELOCIPEDE, built for the L&NW Ry in 1847". Engraved brass oval 10 1/2"x6", the front lightly polished, presented on a polished wood mount. - Sold for £6100 Lot 142 A single line key token, "LLANUWCHLLYN - BALA JCT", (alloy), from the Great Western Railway's Ruabon to Barmouth route, this section running south west along the shore of Bala Lake. The line closed on 18th January 1965. - Sold for £340 Lot 143 A brass armband, "OUTSIDE PORTER, L&NW & MID JOINT, No 16, BIRMINGHAM NEW ST", a superb hand engraved example, 5 1/2"x35/8", in fine condition. - Sold for £600 Lot 144 A BR(E) double royal poster, "IPSWICH, SUFFOLK, WOLSEY'S GATE" by Lance Cattermole, (PP1152). A colourful view of the cardinal and entourage, rolled with light folds. - Sold for £160 Lot 145 A Great Western Railway hallmarked silver pin tray "GENERAL STRIKE MAY 1926, TO MISS P. SLAGG WITH THE GRATEFUL THANKS OF THE GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY", the company's coat of arms in the centre, 5 1/4"x3 1/2", with scalloped corners. - Sold for £200 Lot 146 A locomotive worksplate, "LONDON NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY Co No 2012, DONCASTER 1947", from the LNER Thompson Class A2/3 4-6-2 No 521 "WATLING STREET" which emerged from Doncaster Works in May 1947 and became BR 60521 the following year. It was allocated new to Gateshead and remained there for thirteen before moving to Heaton and then Tweedmouth from where it was withdrawn in November 1962. After six months in store at Blaydon, it was cut up at Doncaster Works in May 1963. The loco takes its name from the racehorse, appropriately owned by Lord Derby, which won the 1942 Derby, Fully engraved brass oval, 13 1/2"x7 3/4", the face lightly polished the back untouched other than "60521 A2/3" noted and stamped "521", a lovely example with green paint still on the rim. - Sold for £4300 Lot 147 A carriage print "CROMFORD, DERBYSHIRE", by Jack Merriott, a scene with the river in the foreground and cottages to the left, with a wooded valley beyond. The print is presented in an original compartment frame. - Sold for £90 Lot 148 A Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway 12" dial roundhead wall clock with an ebonised case. The original face marked "LYR 284", it is complete with pendulum, key, doors to the side and base and has a small metal plate on top stamped "284". Accompanying paperwork shows that the clock was in use at Manchester Victoria in The Revenue Accountants, Centralised Accounts, No 1 Office, 2nd Floor. - Sold for £820 Lot 149 A Great Western Railway "Spagnoletti" block instrument showing "line clear/train on line" for up line, with green face. CARBUTT ESQ R.E. DIRECTOR OF MIDLAND RAILY", oval 1 1/2"x1". The company was formed in 1845 and in 1860 merged with the Worcester and Hereford Railway and the Newport Abergavenny and Hereford Railway, to form the West Midland Railway, which in turn was absorbed by the GWR three years later. An historic item in fine condition. - Sold for £350 Lot 151 A BR(W) chocolate and cream totem sign, "LAMPETER", (f/f), from the Great Western's Aberystwyth to Carmarthen route built by the grandiosely named Manchester and Milford Railway. The station was the junction for the Aberayron branch. The route closed on 22nd February 1965. Excellent colour and shine, a couple of surface marks. - Sold for £1100 Lot 152 An enamel sign, "LMS TRAIN DEPARTURES", white on red, 82"x4 3/4" in two sections, excellent colour and shine, one small portion of edge chipping and a chip filled at the overlap of the join. - Sold for £130 Lot 153 An LMS air raid warden's helmet marked "LMS, 15" and also "PLASFORT, PATENT APPLIED FOR" under the rim. Appears to be made from a form of Bakelite. The inside is fitted with a rather simple form of rubber padding. Unusual as we would imagine few have survived. - Sold for £40 Lot 154 An LMS "Hawkseye" target sign, "KEIGHLEY", from the Midland Railway's Leeds to Carlisle main line, the junction for the Worth Valley branch to Oxenhope. The station and route south of Skipton became part of the North Eastern Region in the 1950s though totem signs were never fitted. The target is repainted in the original black on yellow colours which it carried when fitted in the 1930s. - Sold for £380 Lot 155 A BR(S) signal box diagram, "WINCHESTER CITY, 1963", showing the station, dock, up and down sidings and lines towards St Cross and Winchester Junction, multicoloured, rolled, 18"x52". - Sold for £160 Lot 156 A South Eastern Railway silver plated sauce ladle "HYTHE HOTEL, S.E.R.Co.", with decorative angular scroll motif, 7 1/4" long. Formerly numbered 60014, the car was named at St Leonards depot by John Perry, depot manager, on 11th September 1987. The unit was withdrawn in June 1990 and is thought to be extant as part of a 2-car service unit No 977698. Cast aluminium, 27 1/4"x9", original red paintwork, the condition is as removed from the unit. - Sold for £420 Lot 159 An LMS enamel bowl, with a 15" rim diameter, white with dark blue rim and light blue LMS initials on the side. The station is situated between Poole and Dorchester and was the junction for the Swanage branch. - Sold for £440 Lot 164 A shedplate "55A", Leeds Holbeck (October 1956 to October 1967 when it closed to steam). The ex MR shed at Holbeck was transferred from the LMR (20A) to the NER in 1956. 80 locos were present when this change took place, but it is probably the early 60s that is best remembered when its allocation of A3s, Jubilees and Royal Scots were often seen working over the Settle and Carlisle line. It also had an allocation of Class 45 Peaks and many of these carried this style of plate. The front probably repainted long ago, plenty of evidence of use over many years, 40"x17 1/2". - Sold for £3600 Lot 169 A Tyers single line tablet, "QUEENSFERRY JUNC - DALMENY JCT", (brass/steel), an unusual North British Railway example, the section is for the Forth Bridge on the double track east coast main line, the boxes at each end of the bridge being equipped with tablet instruments so that single line working could be introduced during frequent engineering works. - Sold for £240 Lot 170 A pair of brass signal box instrument plates; (a) "RAWDON JUNCTION UP INTERMEDIATE DISTANT TO SHIPLEY"; and (b) "UP SLOW LINE OUTER & INTERMEDIATE DISTANTS", from the Midland Railway's main line to Carlisle, from a box just north of Leeds. Each 5"x7/8", excellent condition. (2) - Sold for £60 Lot 171 A locomotive worksplate, "PECKETT & SONS LTD, No 1952, BRISTOL, 1938", from a 0-6-0ST O/C which worked at Tyne Dock, Co. Durham but moved to Albert Edward Dock, Percy Main in 1954 as their No 21. In October 1956 it moved via Abelson to Eastwell & Waltham Ironstone Co where it was repaired in time for the opening in July 1957 of Mill Hill Ironstone Quarries, Eaton, Leicestershire, where it was their only loco. The owners became Eastwell & Loddington Ironstone Co in October 1959 and part of Staveley Minerals in March 1961. The loco is presumed to have been cut up on site. Engraved brass oval, 15"x8 1/4", the front lightly polished only. - Sold for £600 Lot 172 A carriage print, "BREDON VILLAGE, WORCESTERSHIRE by Donald Lampitt", from the LMR(C) Series. A view of the village centre and church. - Sold for £50 Lot 173 A BR(W) chocolate and cream totem sign, "TOWYN", (f/f), from the Cambrian Railway's coastal route to Pwllheli. The town is also served by the Talyllyn Railway. Good colour and shine, a couple of surface marks only. - Sold for £950 Lot 174 A pair of LMS Northern Counties Committee silver plated grape scissors, 7" long, the handle clearly marked with the company initials in block motif. - Sold for £80 Lot 175 A smokebox numberplate, "46412", from a LMS Class 2F (later 2) 2-6-0 No 6412 built at Crewe in 1947, becoming BR 46412 just a year later. It was allocated new to Blackpool and later to Agecroft, Aintree, Bury and Newton Heath from where it was withdrawn in August and cut up three months later at Cashmores, Great Bridge. The plate is in ex loco condition with original paintwork. - Sold for £480 Lot 176 A locomotive nameplate, "AXMINSTER", with its matching "WEST COUNTRY CLASS" scroll, from the SR Bulleid Light Pacific 4-6-2 No 21C118 built at Brighton and entered traffic at Exmouth Junction in December 1945. It became BR 34018 and went in 1951 to Nine Elms It was rebuilt without streamlined casing in September 1958, moved to Salisbury in 1963, then Eastleigh before returning to Nine Elms from where it was withdrawn in July 1967. It was then stored at Salisbury until February 1968 and cut up two months later at Cashmores, Newport. The nameplate 63" long, the front repainted, the back completely untouched, the scroll repainted on the front only. (2) Lot 177 A BR(S) dark green totem sign, "SOUTHWATER", (f/f), from the London Brighton and South Coast Railway's Brighton to Horsham route which closed between Shoreham and Christ's Hospital on 7th March 1966. The station was on the company's Edinburgh to Glasgow main line, between Linlithgow and Polmont, it closed on 6th March 1967. - Sold for £190 Lot 182 A Caledonian Railway semaphore block instrument for double line, showing up and down line signals on a finialed post, below two plungers with red and white glass heads and to the left up train on/off indicators, with plunger, a bell is mounted on top of the case. An impressive example, 29" tall, in fine original condition. - Sold for £580 Lot 183 A Great Western Railway ceramic lamp tablet, "CHEDDAR", from the company's Yatton to Witham route which closed to passengers on 9th September 1963 and freight in 1965, black engraved letters on white, within its original decorative cast iron frame, 18"x3 1/2", an uncommon style in excellent condition. - Sold for £540 Lot 184 A BR(Sc) light blue totem sign, "NEWTONMORE", (h/f), from the Highland Railway's Perth to Inverness main line and situated a little north of Dalwhinnie. Excellent colour and shine. - Sold for £420 Lot 185 A Great Eastern Railway 12" dial roundhead wall clock with fusee movement, the original face marked "G.E.R.". It is complete with a cast brass bezel, pendulum, key and doors to the side and base and originates from the March area, fine original condition. - Sold for £1000 Lot 186 A Highland Railway Hotels egg cup, with the company's large green coat of arms on the side and the full company name, 2 1/4" high, restoration to the rear rim. - Sold for £100 Lot 187 A locomotive nameplate, "GREAT GABLE", from a BR Type 4 1Co-Co1 Class 44 diesel electric No D4, later 44004. Built at Derby in September 1959 and delivered new to Camden, it was one of the last three members of the Class to be withdrawn in November 1980. Scheduled for preservation, it was handed over to the Great Gable Preservation Group at Toton Depot. This plate was made from an original nameplate owned by a member of the Group for the handover ceremony. It was carried for several years in preservation before the loco had a major overhaul when new plates were affixed. The loco takes its name from the mountain in Cumbria, 2949ft high. Cast aluminium, 40"x6", in ex loco condition with original red paintwork. - Sold for £600 Lot 188 A cast iron ring from a road junction sign "K.C.C., OSBOURNBY". The village is on the A15 Bourne to Sleaford road which follows the route of the Great Northern line between the two towns. 13" diameter, 24" high including base and spike, original paintwork. (KCC=Kesteven County Council, part of Lincolnshire). - Sold for £40 Lot 189 A Great Western Railway horse box roof lamp with a large brass plate, "RETURN TO GENERAL STORES SWINDON 177", complete with burner stamped "GWR", vessel, top handle and glass dome, overall 21" high. These lamps were designed to be fitted through the roof of the van, secured by their brass collar, thus preventing them falling and setting the bedding alight. - Sold for £500 Lot 190 A BR(E) double royal poster, "BOSTON, LINCOLNSHIRE, Where In 1607 Some Of The Pilgrim Fathers Were Imprisoned In The Guildhall", by Lance Cattermole, (PP1148). A view of the emigrants on the Mayflower preparing to sail for the New World, rolled light folds, a repair top centre. - Sold for £150 Lot 191 A BR(M) enamel "NEXT TRAIN" clock indicator sign, maroon on white with maroon flange, the mechanism mounted on the rear, a slot at the base holds a destination plate, 12"x26 1/2", excellent condition. - Sold for £220 Lot 192 An industrial locomotive nameplate, "PEMBERTON", and its matching worksplate "R&W HAWTHORN LESLIE & Co LTD, ENGINEERS NEWCASTLE ON TYNE, 3878 - 1936", from a 0-4-0ST O/C new to Pemberton Colliery Co (1929) Ltd which was taken over by the National Coal Board in January 1947. It worked at various collieries including Moss, Chisnall Hall (where it was named) and Joan Pit. It later worked at Whittle and then Huncoat Colliery where it was renamed "Falcon". It moved to William Pit, Whitehaven in March 1968 and was scrapped on site by J Roper (Workington) Ltd in April 1969. The nameplate cast brass 42 1/2"x5 1/2", the worksplate cast brass oval, 13"x8 1/2", both with the fronts repainted in green. (2) - Sold for £1400 Lot 193 A smokebox numberplate, "3804" from a GWR 2884 Class 2-8-0 built at Swindon in August 1939 and allocated new to Ebbw Junction where it remained for twenty years before moving to Pontypool Road and then Cardiff Canton and Cardiff East Dock from where it was withdrawn in July 1964 and, after a period in store there, cut up at Cashmores, Newport the following December. The plate is in ex loco condition with original paintwork. - Sold for £430 Lot 194 A Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway signal box nameboard, "AINSDALE", from the Southport to Liverpool route, cast letters on wood, 60 1/2"x10", the front repainted. - Sold for £310 Lot 195 A locomotive worksplate, "KERR, STUART & Co LTD, LONDON & STOKE, No 4355, 1925", from an LMS Class 4 (later 4F) 0-6-0, LMS No 4105, BR 44105. A Huddersfield loco at the end of its LMS days, its BR sheds were Goole, Lower Darwen, Wigan and Skipton from where it was withdrawn in October 1961. Following a year in store at Skipton, it was cut up at Wards, Broughton Lane, Sheffield in November 1962. Cast brass oval, 12 3/4"x6 3/4", the plate is in ex loco condition. - Sold for £780 Lot 196 A pair of ornate brass door handles for the Great Western Royal Hotel at Paddington, each 30" tall with hexagonal body, they were used on the entrance doors to the dining rooms. (2) - Sold for £85 Lot 197 A Great Western Railway brass signal box shelf plate, "FROM LEOMINSTER STATION BOX MAIN LINE", from the Shrewsbury and Hereford line, 4 3/4"x1 1/2". - Sold for £160 Lot 198 An LMS Royal Train dining car attendant's uniform, comprising jacket with six "LMS DINING CAR SERVICE" flat nickel buttons and two further buttons on a clip to fasten the jacket, thick silver decorative wire braid around the collar, lapels and cuffs with "Attendant" embroidered on each lapel, also the matching trousers with blue piping. This magnificent uniform was worn by a Mr Jesson of Rugby who worked for the LMS Dining Car Service in the 1920s/30s. Jesson regularly worked on the Royal Trains during this period. The finest uniform we have seen, with an interesting history and good provenance. It was originally sold in our January 2006 auction. - Sold for £150 Lot 199 An LMS Coat of Arms Flag in red and white with coloured detail in the centre, complete with rope and toggle, 64"x48", good usable condition other than a few small holes. - Sold for £100 Lot 200 A single line key token, "HERTFORD NTH - WELWYN GARDEN CITY", (chrome/brass plate). The line closed in 1966, although its intermediate passenger stations had closed in 1951. - Sold for £250 Lot 201 A Cheshire Lines brass signal lever plate from Southport Lord Street "1, Nos 1, 2, 3 PLATFORM STARTINGS TO BIRKDALE, NIL OR 5 OR 16". An early example with hand cut lettering, 2 1/2"x6". The box and station closed in 1952. - Sold for £50 Lot 202 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "SHAP", (f/f), from the famous station high in the Westmorland Fells close to the summit of the same name. Cream on maroon paintwork, 132" long. - Sold for £230 Lot 209 A pair of "LMS HOTELS" silver plated nutcrackers by Mappin and Webb, 5 1/4" long, the company name on each handle in a wedge-shaped motif on a ribbed background. - Sold for £75 Lot 210 A Gold Coast Railway coat of arms transfer featuring an African elephant and palm tree, the company initials in red, the whole image within a gilt rope surround with maroon background, 9"x10", a lovely example. - Sold for £80 Lot 211 A Great Western Railway brass signal box shelf plate, "CROPREDY GOODS LOOP", from the main line just north of Banbury, engraved lettering, 4 1/4"x1 1/2". - Sold for £120 Lot 212 A pair of Great Western Railway brass locomotive whistles, large and small, complete with their "L"-shaped base pipes and steel mounting plate. Excellent colour and shine, one tiny chip just into the tangerine below the "D". - Sold for £1200 Lot 214 A Great Northern Railway wooden departure board from Kings Cross, "BALDOCK, FIRST STOP HATFIELD", white lettering with black shading on red, 51"x8", a little surface wear, shadow lettering just visible underneath, "POTTERS BAR, FIRST STOP WOOD GREEN", double sided with hanging hooks. - Sold for £380 Lot 215 A Cambrian Railway platform wall lamp with a label at the top "BUILTH WELLS", (worn) and an oval embossed brass plate on the front "CAM Ry", 21" high, complete with its vessel, brass burner and glass chimney. - Sold for £300 Lot 216 A shedplate "62B", Dundee Tay Bridge (1949 to May 1967). This ex NBR shed had a substantial allocation of around 100 locos in the 1950s, but by late 1965 this had dwindled to just 30 which, however, included the last three active LNER A2s, Tudor Minstrel, Sayajirao and Blue Peter. The plate is in ex loco condition although it has lost most of its paint. - Sold for £160 Lot 217 A locomotive worksplate, "LMS, BUILT 1925, ST ROLLOX". Locos built that year were LMS Class 4 (later 4F) 0-6-0 Nos 4179-206, BR 44179-206 and Class 4 (later 4P) 4-6-0 Nos 14630/1, BR 54630/1, a post-group development of the Caledonian Railway 60 Class. Cast brass oval, 10 1/2"x6", the front repainted black. - Sold for £130 Lot 218 A brass cabside numberplate, "SOUTH AFRICAN RAILWAYS, SUID AFRIKANSE SPORWEE, 3041, 15F", from a SAR 3ft 6ins gauge 4-8-2 of Class 15F built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 25580, in 1944. The Class was a heavyweight mixed traffic design of 1938, built in batches up to 1946 and able to handle every duty on principal routes. Cast brass oval, 20 1/2"x14 1/2", a fine example in ex loco condition with original red paintwork. - Sold for £700 Lot 219 A single line key token, "CRYNANT - NEATH & BRECON YARD", (alloy), as the wording suggests a section on the Neath and Brecon Railway, unusual in having the name of a pre-grouping company on the key. - Sold for £120 Lot 220 An LMS enamel sign, "PASSENGERS MUST NOT CROSS THE LINE EXCEPT BY THE FOOTBRIDGE", black on yellow, 22"x18", excellent colour and shine, a rare style designed to match the "Hawkseye" signs, a few small edge chips, generally good. - Sold for £100 Lot 221 A First World War tea mug "SAILORS AND SOLDIERS REST, CREWE AND DISTRICT FEDERATION, CREWE 1914-17, C.E.M.S, PLEASE RETURN TO CREWE", black design, a cross within a circle. - Sold for £30 Lot 222 A London Brighton and South Coast Railway three aspect handlamp, the body stamped "B1435 BRIGHTON STATION" and "LB&SCR", the top is plated "S(E)R" and is of the correct style, while the vessel is stamped "S[B]R", the lamp is complete, cleaned but unpainted. - Sold for £210 Lot 223 A London and South Western Railway cast iron signal finial, unrestored, original paintwork. - Sold for £100 Lot 224 A locomotive nameplate, "TUDOR MINSTREL", from the (LNER) Peppercorn Class A2 4-6-2 built at Doncaster, Works No 2019, in February 1948, originally numbered E528, it was renumbered 60528 in June 1948. It was allocated new to Gateshead but was transferred to Dundee Tay Bridge in 1949 and remained on the Scottish Region for the rest of its working life, with spells in the 1960s at Perth, Dundee and Aberdeen from where it was withdrawn in June 1966. After a period in store at Dundee Tay Bridge, it was cut up at McWilliams, Shettleston the following December. The engine takes its name from the horse, owned by Mr JA Dewar, which won the 2000 Guineas in 1947, so very current at the time the loco was named. The plate is unrestored with blue paintwork, 71" long, and in common with other members of the class has the names of other LNER locos visible on the back of the plate. - Sold for £14600 Lot 225 An LNER carriage print, "STONEGATE, YORK, from a watercolour by Fred Taylor R.I." from the Pre-War Series. A view down the busy street looking towards the Minster, a few marks to the white border but a scarce example only auctioned twice before. - Sold for £330 Lot 226 A smokebox numberplate, "42566", from a LMS Class 4P (later 4) 2-6-4T No 2566, built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 24322, in 1936, becoming BR 42566. It sheds included Bletchley, Crewe North, Northwich, Bushbury, Warwick, Leamington Spa, Landore, Willesden and finally Birkenhead from where it was withdrawn in May 1965. After five months in store at Birkenhead, it was cut up at Drapers, Hull the following October. The front of the plate has been repainted. - Sold for £400 Lot 227 A BR(Sc) light blue totem sign, "CARRON", (f/f), from the Great North of Scotland Railway's Spey Valley line from Craigellachie to Boat of Garten, the line closed on 18th October 1965. Good colour though some lose of shine in places. - Sold for £600 Lot 228 A Southern Railway "Sykes" small block bell, 7"x6", with a metal maker's plate, "W.R.SYKES, INTERLOCKING SIGNAL Co LTD, RAILWAY SIGNAL & ELECTRICAL ENGINEERS, LONDON SW4", original condition. - Sold for £40 Lot 229 A locomotive worksplate, "LMS, BUILT 1933, CREWE", from a LMS Stanier Class 5P4F (later 5P5F, 6P5F and 5), Works No 120, LMS No 13250. It was renumbered 2950 in 1934, becoming BR 42950. It spent most of its later years at Crewe South, moving late on to Rugby, Chester, Birkenhead, Nuneaton, Mold Junction, Gorton and finally Heaton Mersey from where it was withdrawn in November 1963 and cut up two months later at Wards, Killamarsh. Cast brass oval, 10 1/2"x6", the front background repainted. - Sold for £240 Lot 230 An L.M.S. brass collecting box as worn on a dog's back, engraved "LMS BENEVOLENT FUND" by each of the two slots. It is mounted on a substantial leather and felt pad which sits on the dog's back with a securing strap, 11"x8" overall, good original condition, though one strap needs re-attaching. - Sold for £340 Lot 231 An LNER enamel shed code for Neville Hill, Leeds "NEV HILL". This ex NER depot had an allocation of around 90 locos during its LNER days when this plate would have been affixed to the inside of the cab roof. Black on white enamel, 97/8" long, very minor chips at top and edge. Lot 232 A London and North Western Railway cast iron notice "4 S.V. 22FT, SHUTS OFF FIRE HYDRANTS AND PARACHUTE TANKS", 23 1/2"x15", the front repainted. - Sold for £100 Lot 233 A locomotive worksplate, "MANUFACTURED AT CREWE 1988, BREL, BRITISH RAIL ENGINEERING LIMITED", from a BR 25kv Class 90 Bo-Bo in the number series 90001-18. Cast aluminium oval, 93/8"x5 1/4", in ex loco condition with original white on black paintwork. - Sold for £330 Lot 234 An original oil painting by Barry Price, a scene at Midford on the Somerset and Dorset Line, 34041, Wilton piloted by 7F, 53809, with an express in the mid 1950s, superb detail, 33"x23", framed. Lot 235 A BR(Sc) light blue totem sign, "HUNTLY", (h/f), from the Great North of Scotland's Aberdeen to Elgin (and Inverness) route, one of only four of the company's stations to survive. Excellent colour and shine. - Sold for £380 Lot 236 A Highland Railway one engine in steam train staff "GOLLANFIELD - FORT GEORGE", from the short branch on the shores of the Moray Firth which closed to passengers on 5th April 1943 and to freight in 1958. The staff is 10 1/2" long and has a cylindrical body with a key at one end and a ring at the other, a rare opportunity to acquire a unique Highland staff. - Sold for £380 Lot 237 A locomotive worksplate, "NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE COMPANY LTD, GLASGOW, 1926, QUEENS PARK WORKS, No 23473", from a LMS Class 4 (later 4F) 0-6-0, LMS No 4399, BR 44399. In late LMS days it was shedded at Workington but it spent most of its BR days at Carnforth before moving to Carlisle Upperby and finally Trafford Park from where it was withdrawn in February 1964. Following over a year in store at Trafford Park, it was cut up at Wards, Killamarsh in April 1965. Cast brass diamond, 14 3/4"x6", unrestored though unpainted. - Sold for £460 Lot 238 A BR(NE) double royal poster, "YORK, THE GATEWAY TO HISTORY", by E.H. Spencer, (NER,55). Featuring the Minster towers and the heads of those historically associated with the city, slight foxing at the base. - Sold for £150 Lot 239 A smokebox numberplate, "70050", from the BR Standard Class 7 "Britannia" 4-6-2 allocated new to Polmadie in August 1954 and named "FIRTH OF CLYDE" the following January. It moved later to Corkerhill, Crewe North, Holyhead, back to Crewe North, Crewe South, Banbury and finally Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in August 1966 after a working life of only twelve years. It was cut up at GH Campbell, Airdrie two months later. The front of the plate has been repainted, though the back is in original condition. - Sold for £3800 Lot 240 A single line key token, "PORTMADOC - CRICCIETH", (alloy), a section on the Cambrian coast route to Pwllheli, running along the shore of Tremadoc Bay. - Sold for £150 Lot 241 An LMS "Hawkseye" target sign, "PENRITH", from the Lancaster and Carlisle section of the West Coast Main Line. Once an important Lakeland junction for the Keswick and Stainmore routes, the station survives as the railhead for a large area of Cumbria. Original maroon paintwork, a crack at the left end. - Sold for £420 Lot 242 A BR(E) dark blue totem sign, "WAINFLEET", (h/f), from the former Great Northern Railway station situated just outside Skegness on the route to Boston and formerly Lincoln. The village is famous as the home of Bateman's Brewery. Excellent colour though two chips at the top edge and one at the base, all filled and colour matched. - Sold for £580 Lot 243 An "LMS HOTELS" silver plated breakfast coffee service comprising tray, 14 1/2"x11 1/2", 8" coffee pot, 6" hot water and milk jugs, 4 1/2" sugar bowl and small four slice toast rack all marked with the block motif, also a pair of sugar tongs of similar design, all in good, usable condition. (7) - Sold for £210 Lot 244 A Great Western Railway cast iron cabside numberplate, "GWR 40" from the Rhymney Railway "R" Class 0-6-2T built by Beyer Peacock, Works No 6100, in December 1921, RR No 44. It was rebuilt at Caerphilly Works with a GWR superheated taper boiler in October 1949. In later years it was shedded at Cardiff Cathays and Cardiff East Dock from where it was withdrawn in October 1953 and cut up at Swindon Works the following January. The plate is in ex loco condition, with original paintwork, one of the finest examples we have seen. - Sold for £3000 Lot 245 A polished hardwood indicator from a Birmingham tram 38"x11", with glazed front. The blind includes destinations "LONGBRIDGE, RUBERY, REDNAL, SPECIAL CAR, NORTHFIELD, DEPOT ONLY, PERSHORE ROAD, SELLY OAK, BRITISH OAK, DOGPOOL, PRIORY ROAD FOR COUNTY GROUND, PEBBLE MILL RD, CANNON HILL, KINGS HEATH VIA BALSALL HEATH". The blind is a bit worn but a spare blind is included from Car 343 which shows "Stockland Green, Erdington, Witton Via Sixways & Via Aston, Lozells, Graveley Hill, Ward End, Aston Cross, Tyburn Road, Short Heath, Race Special, Football Special", etc.(2) - Sold for £550 Lot 246 A BR(S) dark green enamel sign "TRAIN SERVICE", which would have been displayed above a timetable poster, 45"x5", a few minor edge chips, good colour and reasonable shine. - Sold for £40 Lot 247 A locomotive headboard, "THE ROYAL HIGHLANDER" as used on the Euston to Inverness sleeping car service. The train first ran in 1927 but was withdrawn during the war years and not reinstated until June 1957 when this headboard was introduced. It last ran in May 1985. Original unrestored condition, with red paintwork, 33"x15 1/2", plenty of use over many years. - Sold for £2100 Lot 248 An "LMS" cast aluminium roundel with decorative side wings, from the frontage of one of the company's new or rebuilt stations in the 1930s. It is repainted green, black and yellow and is 36" diameter with a span of 67", cast in three sections, the bracket of one wing detached, not visible when assembled, a superb item and probably a unique survivor. - Sold for £620 Lot 249 A carriage board, "HITHER GREEN, GROVE PARK, SUNDRIDGE PARK, BROMLEY NORTH" and on the reverse "SUNDRIDGE PARK, GROVE PARK, HITHER GREEN, LONDON", yellow on dark green, 24"x20 1/2", a little wear and the edges slightly trimmed. The board was found in the back of a seat in a Southern Railway 2 BIL EMU, where it was used as a support and discovered when the unit was being dismantled. - Sold for £40 Lot 250 A brass Pullman car table lamp with a circular base, 21" high with an acorn decoration on the top, as usual the shade is absent. - Sold for £360 Lot 251 A Great Western Railway cast iron signal box nameboard, "TOLCARN JUNCTION SIGNAL BOX", from the box situated just outside Newquay where the lines to Par and Chacewater diverged forming a triangle with Lane Junction and Newquay Junction on which locomotives were turned. The Chacewater branch closed in 1963. The nameboard is 90" long and in original condition. Lot 252 A GWR cast iron notice, "GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY, NOTICE, NO UNAUTHORISED PERSON ALLOWED IN THIS BOX, BY ORDER". The sign is in lovely original condition, 11"x8" and comes from Tolcarn Junction signal box. See previous lot. - Sold for £160 Lot 253 A wooden station sign, "STANBRIDGEFORD", from the London and North Western Railway's Leighton Buzzard to Dunstable branch. The station closed on 2nd July 1962, while the branch itself survived until 1967. Cream on maroon, 42"x6", with chamfered edge. - Sold for £40 Lot 254 A BR(S) signal box diagram, "MAYFIELD", 1964 (drawn 1951), showing the station, loop and lines to Rotherfield and Heathfield. The box was on the Eridge to Polegate line which closed on 14th June 1965. Coloured, 31 1/2"21", a repair to the right side. - Sold for £200 Lot 255 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "CARK AND CARTMEL", (f/f), from the Furness Railway's Carnforth to Barrow route, the station being situated to the east of the Leven Viaduct. Excellent colour and shine with slight dulling at the edges. - Sold for £1850 Lot 256 A carriage print, "ST MONANCE, FIFESHIRE, from a watercolour by J McIntosh Patrick". A dramatic view of the coastal village with children playing on the cliffs and beach. - Sold for £250 Lot 257 A Great Western Railway china jug with a brown coat of arms and scrolls "GWR REFRESHMENT DEPARTMENT", brown decoration to the handle and rim, 6" high, a little discolouration at the back base and restoration, an impressive piece. - Sold for £75 Lot 258 A shedplate "55C", Farnley Junction (October 1956 to November 1966). This ex LNWR shed was transferred from the LM Region (25G) in 1956 when 50 locos received this code. In its final year it had just 5 Black 5s, a solitary 8F and 3 Jubilees. The front of the plate has been repainted pale yellow. - Sold for £95 Lot 259 A BR(S) light green totem sign, "ST HELIER", (f/f), from the London Brighton and South Coast Railway's Wimbledon to Sutton route. Excellent colour and shine. - Sold for £460 Lot 260 A cast iron makers plate from Birmingham Snow Hill, "E.C & J KEAY. LD, ENGINEERS, CONTRACTORS, DARLASTON, BIRMINGHAM, 1907". The lettering on a raised Staffordshire Knot, the plate is 12 1/2"x6 1/2", the front repainted black and red with white lettering. Keays provided steelwork for the station. - Sold for £220 Lot 261 An LMS lamp tablet, "NUNEATON ABBEY STREET", from the Midland Railway's route from Birmingham and junction for the Midland and LNW Joint Line to Coalville. The station closed on 4th March 1968, with trains being diverted to the nearby Trent Valley station. Black on yellow, excellent colour and shine and chips just around fixing holes, 16"x6 1/2", the name on two lines. - Sold for £150 Lot 262 A locomotive worksplate, "BRITISH RAILWAYS, DERBY BUILT, 1963, POWER EQUIPMENT BY ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES & SULZER", from a BR Type 2 Class 25 Bo-Bo in the number series D5168-222 and D5233-39. Cast aluminium rectangle, 13"x6 1/2", in ex loco condition with original BR blue paint and "25087", the later number of D5237, scratched on the back. - Sold for £160 Lot 263 A Great Northern Railway 12" dial wall clock with fusee movement and a mahogany case. The dial has the original background paintwork, the lettering "GNR, 482, JOHN SMITH, MIDLAND CLOCK WORKS QUEEN ST, DERBY" has been restored, while "LNER" and "9488" are still visible in ghost lettering. The clock is complete with a spun brass bezel, pendulum, key and doors to the sides and base, and is in excellent condition. - Sold for £760 Lot 264 A locomotive worksplate, "NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE COMPANY LTD, GLASGOW, 1950, 26834", from a (LNER) B1 Class 4-6-0 No 61375 which went new to Immingham in February 1951 but moved in the September to Stratford where it remained for ten years, spending the final year or so of its working life at March from where it was withdrawn from regular service in November 1963. It was then taken into Departmental Stock as DM No 24 and worked at Kings Lynn, then March, until finally withdrawn in about April 1966 and cut up the following August at Birds, Long Marston. Cast brass diamond, 13 3/4"x5 1/2", ex loco condition with some knocks to the front of the plate. - Sold for £140 Lot 265 A carriage board, "DOLGOCH & WHARF ONLY / DOLGOCH & ABERGYNOLWYN ONLY", 21 1/2"x5 3/4", cream on maroon paintwork with metal strips at the ends. - Sold for £85 Lot 266 A North Eastern Railway buffer stop lamp with a large red lens, brass bezel and steel body repainted red, a substantial copper plate on the front "HARPERLEY No 2, BUFFER STOP" and an embossed oval "NER" plate on the side. The lamp lacks its vessel and burner. Harperley was on the Wear Valley line and closed on 29th June 1953. - Sold for £800 Lot 267 A BR(Sc) light blue totem sign, "KEITH JUNCTION", (f/f), from the Highland Railway's station where the company met the Great North of Scotland Railway on the route to Aberdeen. Excellent colour and shine, a small chip filled above the "C" and colour matched. - Sold for £640 Lot 268 A locomotive nameplate, "COUNTY OF HANTS" from the GWR 1000 "County" Class 4-6-0 No 1016 built at Swindon in March 1946 and named the following September. It was allocated new to Stafford Road and, after a brief stay at Laira, moved at the end of 1952 to Shrewsbury where it remained until withdrawal in September 1963. After four months in store at Shrewsbury, it was cut up at Wards, Broughton Lane Sheffield in January 1964. This is the left hand side nameplate, 71" long, which was fitted directly to the loco splasher and does not, therefore, have an extended back plate. The plate has been repainted. Lot 269 A Great Western Railway brass cabside numberplate, "1016". The front repainted long ago, the back untouched. Please see previous Lot for loco history. Lot 270 A locomotive worksplate, "NORTH BRITISH LOCOMOTIVE COMPANY LTD GLASGOW, 1962, 27910", from BR Type 2 Class 22 B-B diesel hydraulic D6337 new to Newton Abbot in March 1962, withdrawn from Laira in October 1971 and cut up at Swindon Works the following May. Cast aluminium diamond, 14"x5 1/2", in ex loco condition although the ends broken off. - Sold for £250 Lot 271 An LMS silver plated tea service comprising teapot, hot water and milk jugs, sugar bowl (oval pattern), stemmed bon-bon dish, tongs and tray, all marked "LMS Hotels" in block motif except bowl (Cars), tongs (coat of arms), tray (HE Cars), all in good usable condition. (7) - Sold for £190 Lot 272 A BR(M) maroon enamel doorplate "PARCELS ", (f/f), excellent colour and shine, a couple of edge chips and marks. - Sold for £120 Lot 273 A single line key token, "LOWER CYNON - CWMAVON", (alloy), from the Rhondda and Swansea Bay line between Aberavon and Cymmer Afan which closed in 1964. - Sold for £70 Lot 274 A London and North Western Railway brass seal, "LLANGEFNI, L&NWR", with a turned wooden handle, 3 1/2" high, the head 5/8". The station was on the Gaerwen to Amlwch branch which closed in 1964. - Sold for £150 Lot 275 A Shedplate "52A" (brass), Gateshead (1949 to May 1973). These brass plates were cast specially for use on the depot's fleet of Class 55 Deltics. The front of the plate has been repainted, though the back is untouched with plenty of yellow paint in evidence. - Sold for £200 Lot 276 A pair of locomotive worksplate renumbering strips: (1) "8429", from a NER Class 290, LNER Class J77, 0-6-0T built at Gateshead in July 1879, NER/LNER No 199, renumbered 8429 in 1946, becoming BR 68429, withdrawn from Selby in January 1956; and (2) "69095", from a NER Class U, LNER N10 Class, 0-6-2T built at Darlington in December 1902, NER/LNER No 89, renumbered 9095 in 1946, becoming BR 69095, withdrawn from Gateshead in October 1955. Cast brass, each with one end missing, the numbers unaffected. (2) - Sold for £70 Lot 277 A Highland Railway enamel trespass notice, "NOTICE, PERSONS ARE STRICTLY PROHIBITED FROM WALKING UPON ANY PORTION OF THE RAILWAY, THE STATUTORY PENALTIES WILL BE ENFORCED AGAINST ALL TRESPASSERS, BY ORDER OF THE DIRECTORS", 24"x18", brown on white lower case lettering with three key words in capitals, the text in italic script with a particularly unusual and decorative style of "G", various face chips have been filled, but not repainted and some loss of shine, touching in the filled chips would produce a good presentable example of this scarce sign. - Sold for £580 Lot 278 A large Great Western Railway weight for a platform weighing machine "G.W.R. BRISTOL", cast into the top. It is repainted black and would make an ideal door stop. - Sold for £110 Lot 279 A BR(E) dark blue totem sign, "WALTHAMSTOW", (h/f), from the Great Eastern Railway's Chingford branch. The station was formerly called Hoe Street. Excellent colour and shine. - Sold for £680 Lot 280 An early "L.&N.W. S.S. Co" deck chair in hard wood with the company's flag woven into the seat, excellent original condition, 28" high. - Sold for £80 Lot 281 A London and South Western Railway "Sykes" oil-filled fogging repeater comprising wooden base and brass frame housing a glass vessel which contains the electrical equipment and two red home signal arms, with white circles at the end. These instruments were filled with oil to prevent freezing. A crack at the rear of the case has necessitated the removal of the oil. An uncommon example. - Sold for £60 Lot 282 A cast aluminium road sign, "ROAD NARROWS", complete with its ten reflectors, the maker's name "W. Smith & Sons, Grove Works, Barnard Castle" cast in, 12 1/4"x21 1/2", completely original condition. - Sold for £70 Lot 283 A cast aluminium lion wheel and crown emblem, as fitted to West Coast A.C. electric locomotives when built in the late 1950s, the front lightly cleaned only and mounted on a backboard, a fine example. - Sold for £640 Lot 284 A locomotive nameplate, "JOHN WADDELL", from a 0-6-0ST O/C built by Hudswell Clarke & Co, Works No 912, in 1912 for the Llanelly & Mynydd Mawr Railway. The loco was so named after the founder of John Waddell & Sons of Edinburgh, railway contractors who agreed to construct the L&MM line, provide the rolling stock and work the traffic in return for a percentage of the receipts. The Railway was opened on 1st January 1883 and absorbed by the GWR on 1st January 1923. The loco moved, probably in 1919, to the Great Mountain Colliery where it was dismantled in 1959. Cast brass, 41"x65/8" with serif lettering, the front restored in red, the back in original condition. The lot includes an 00 Gauge model of the locomotive. Lot 285 A smokebox numberplate, "5657" from a GWR 5600 Class 0-6-2T built at Swindon in February 1926 and allocated new to Cathays. By the end of its GWR days it had moved to Oxley and it later went to a variety of South Wales sheds including Neyland, Llanelly, Swansea Victoria, Aberbeeg, Ebbw Junction and finally Abercynon from where it was withdrawn in July 1962 and cut up three months later at Cashmores, Newport. The plate is in ex loco condition with original paintwork. - Sold for £420 Lot 286 A GWR cast iron notice, "GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY, NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN IN PURSUANCE OF THE PROVISIONS OF SECTION 65 OF THE GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY (ADDITIONAL POWERS) ACT 1924, THAT THIS IS A PRIVATE PATH", the front repainted cream on brown, the back untouched. - Sold for £210 Lot 287 A Midland Railway non pegging block instrument, clearly stamped "MR Co" and "LMS" and bearing its original ivorine plate "BOURNVILLE". The instrument originates from either Kings Norton or Selly Oak boxes and at some time during its Railway service has undergone professional conversion from a pegging example. It has been cleaned with white spirit and then beeswaxed only to preserve the original patina and is complete with three service labels (1930, 1933x2) and the key to the rear lock. - Sold for £190 Lot 288 A GER police helmet badge, "GREAT EASTERN RAILWAY POLICE FORCE, 61", embossed brass, 2 1/4"x3 1/4", with the company's bat wing emblem in the centre, a crown on top and sunburst surround. It is in excellent condition and complete with its rear pins and brass clip. - Sold for £580 Lot 289 A red leather holder "WATERFORD & LIMERICK RAILWAY TIME & FARE TABLES", with gilt coat of arms in centre, 8 1/4"x12 3/4", spine wear and split at top, the cover has a little edge wear, but quite presentable and certainly uncommon. - Sold for £30 Lot 290 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "SILVERDALE ", (f/f), from the Furness Railway's route to Barrow, the station being situated between Carnforth and Arnside. Excellent colour and shine. - Sold for £660 Lot 291 A single line key token, "CAERSWS - CARNO", (steel/metal plate), from the Cambrian Railway's Moat Lane Junction to Dovey Junction route. This section is on the arduous climb to Talerddig Summit. - Sold for £520 Lot 292 A Midland and Great Northern Joint Railway cast iron notice, "M & GN JR, NOTICE, THESE BUCKETS MUST BE KEPT FULL OF WATER AND USED ONLY IN THE CASE OF FIRE, BY ORDER". The sign is unrestored, 12 1/4"x8" including side lugs with fixing slits. - Sold for £210 Lot 293 An LMS notice, "LONDON MIDLAND AND SCOTTISH RAILWAY COMPANY, Do Not Throw Out Of The Window Anything That Is Likely To Hurt Men Working On The Line", 12"x7 1/2", with decoration and the full company coat of arms to the left. Printed card in original wooden frame (branded LNWR on the back) and glazed. - Sold for £100 Lot 294 A locomotive nameplate, "SOUTHERN RHODESIA" and matching badge depicting the country's heraldic arms, one of only three of the Class to receive badges, from the LMS Class 5XP (later 6P and 7P) 4-6-0 "Jubilee" built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 24153, in 1935 and named at Euston station on 27th May 1937 by Dr Huggins, Prime Minister of the then British Colony, LMS No 5595, becoming BR 45595. Its later sheds were Carlisle Upperby, Longsight, Crewe South, Crewe North and finally Llandudno Junction from where it was withdrawn in January 1965 and, after five months in store there, cut up at Cashmores, Great Bridge the following May. The front of the nameplate has been repainted and the badge polished, it is presented on a wooden splasher, the plate is 48 1/2" long, the badge 11" diameter. - Sold for £28000 Lot 295 A carriage print, "ASHBOURNE, DERBYSHIRE", by Frank Sherwin, from the LMR (B) Series. A view of the town centre, the traffic consisting only of horses and carts. - Sold for £80 Lot 296 A pair of cast iron seat ends in rustic pattern, with the manufacturer's name "BRISTOL WAGON WORKS" cast prominently into the arm rests. (2) - Sold for £150 Lot 297 An "LMS HOTELS" silver plated egg cup by Mappin and Webb, with integral tray for the shell, 4" diameter, the side marked with the company name in block motif. - Sold for £55 Lot 298 A locomotive worksplate, "(GREAT NORTHERN RAILWAY), No 1484 Makers, 1918, DONCASTER", from a GNR Class J22, LNER J6 Class, 0-6-0, GNR/LNER No 3603, renumbered 4252 in 1946, becoming BR 64252. It spent its BR days at New England and Retford from where it was withdrawn in July 1958 to be cut up at Doncaster Works the same month. Engraved brass oval, 12 1/4"x7 1/2", the front polished, the back untouched and stamped "3603/4252". The company name has been filled after nationalization. - Sold for £460 Lot 299 An enamel sign, "PUBLIC TELEPHONE", double sided, white on blue, 19"x12" with ornate bracket, excellent condition. - Sold for £240 Lot 300 An "O" gauge electric model of a Great Western Railway steam railmotor car, in chocolate and cream livery, with the boiler housed in the front of the single coach, working order and presented on a short section of track. - Sold for £330 Lot 301 A pair of Caledonian Railway steel office scissors, 8 1/2" long, attractively marked "C.Ry" by the rivet and "T Newton, Sheffield" the other side. - Sold for £45 Lot 302 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "OXENHOLME", (f/f), from the Lancaster and Carlisle section of the West Coast Main Line. By the end of its GWR days it was at Pontypool Road and later moved to St Philips Marsh, back to Pontypool Road, Neath and Llanelly from where it was withdrawn in February 1965 and cut up two months later at Swindon Works. The actual building is at Cleobury Mortimer. The front of the plate has been repainted. - Sold for £960 Lot 306 A Webb and Thompson large single line train staff "BUTTINGTON JUNCTION - BRIEDDEN", from the Great Western and London and North Western Joint Railway between Shrewsbury and Buttington, where it joined the Cambrian Railway's Oswestry to Newtown line. The staff is of tubular steel construction with brass rings. The sign is 78"x10", good colour though a little loss of shine, a couple of small face chips. - Sold for £160 Lot 311 A BR(Sc) light blue totem sign, "ELGIN", (f/f). This example came from the Great North of Scotland Railway's station on the route from Cairnie Junction via the coast, a scarce example rarely seen before. Excellent colour and shine, with slight discolouration. - Sold for £800 Lot 312 A smokebox numberplate, "68019", from a War Department "Austerity" Class 0-6-0ST built to Ministry of Supply order by WG Bagnall & Co, Works No 2741, in June 1944, WD No 75153. With the cessation of hostilities in Europe in 1945, however, the Class was no longer needed for the war effort and all were acquired by the LNER, becoming their J94 Class. This loco was taken into LNER stock in August 1946 as LNER No 8019, and became BR 68019. It was allocated to Blaydon, then Consett, Tyne Dock and West Hartlepool from where it was withdrawn in October 1964 to be cut up the following January at Hughes Bolckows, North Blyth. It was renumbered 37285 in March 1964 and again renumbered 37335 in September 1964 while in store at Immingham where it remained until cut up on site by Raxstar in May 2000. Cast brass rectangle, 10 1/4"x4 1/2", the chrome plating worn off, the back in original condition. - Sold for £300 Lot 327 A Tyers No 6 single line tablet, "APPLEBY EAST - CLIFTON MOOR", (fibre), from the North Eastern Railway's "Stainmore" route from Darlington to Penrith. Passenger and freight traffic ceased on 22nd January 1962, though the short section from Eden Valley Junction to Clifton Moor survived until 1964 and from Appleby to Warcop until 1989. - Sold for £90 Lot 328 A locomotive nameplate, SAINT NICHOLAS", from a BR 25kv Class 91 Bo-Bo electric No 91009. Built at Crewe Works in August 1988 for use on the East Coast Main Line, the loco was named at Newcastle Central station on 5th December 1992 by the Lord Bishop of Newcastle to mark the 900th anniversary of Newcastle Cathedral (the Cathedral Church of Saint Nicholas). The nameplates were removed in March 1996 following refurbishment at Doncaster Works. The loco was renamed "The Samaritans" in March 1997 and can now be seen running as 91109 in National Express livery. Cast aluminium, 59" long, in ex loco cast from the original pattern and featuring a ship with the wording "The Seal of the Cathedral Church of St Nicholas, Newcastle on Tyne". (2) - Sold for £1500 Lot 329 An LMS "Hawkseye" target sign, "ALYTH JUNCTION", from the Caledonian Railway's Stanley Junction (Perth) to Kinnaber Junction (Montrose) main line, the station being the junction for the historic Dundee and Newtyle line and the Alyth branch. The main line closed in 1967, though freight to Forfar continued until 1982. By the end of its GWR days it was at Barry, later moving back to Cathays and finally Radyr from where it was withdrawn in September 1964 and cut up at Woodhams, Barry between November 1964 and March 1965. The front repainted cream on red, the back untouched. - Sold for £540 Lot 333 A locomotive nameplate, "THE QUORN", from the LNER D49/2 "Hunt" Class 4-4-0 No 336 built at Darlington in June 1929 and originally named "Buckinghamshire" but in May 1932 the name was changed to that of the fox hunt operating in the areas of Tutbury, Derby and Uttoxeter. It was renumbered 2727 in 1946, becoming BR 62727. A long time Starbeck engine, it finished its days at Hull (Dairycoates) from where it was withdrawn in January 1961. After three months in store at Hull (Springhead), it was cut up at Darlington Works the following April. Cast brass, complete with its left facing fox. - Sold for £11000 Lot 334 A pair of unused Great Western Railway clogs for use in the company's gun powder vans, solid wood soles to avoid sparks, the sides stamped "GWR", also a small guard's van broom, the head branded "GWR Brake Van", 40" long. A fine image of a new BR standard class, 73000 with a train of plum and custard coaches, a castle and mountains beyond, loose framed. - Sold for £170 Lot 337 A BR(S) dark green totem sign, "KINGSWOOD", (f/f), from the South Eastern and Chatham Railway's Tattenham Corner branch. Good colour although loss of shine, three small face chips filled to colour match and two similar edge chips. - Sold for £260 Lot 338 A locomotive worksplate "(LONDON & NORTH EASTERN RAILWAY CO), No 1859, DONCASTER, 1937", from the LNER Gresley A4 Class 4-6-2 No 4494 which emerged from Doncaster Works in August 1937 and was originally named "OSPREY" after the species of eagle and following the British birds theme of most of the Class, but on 29th October 1942 it was officially re-named "ANDREW K. McCOSH" at Kings Cross station after the Chairman of the LNER Locomotive Committee and one of only five directors who served the company for the whole 25 years of its existence. It was re-numbered No 3 in 1946 and became BR 60003. It was allocated new to Heaton and later moved to Doncaster, Grantham, Kings Cross, Grantham again and finally back to Kings Cross in September 1957 where it remained until withdrawn in December 1962. During its final stay at Kings Cross it was one of top shed's A4s allocated to regular Royal Train duties. It was cut up at Doncaster Works in February 1963. Engraved brass oval, 13 1/2"x7 1/2" the company name filled as was the practice after nationalisation, the back is clearly stamped "3" and "4494". The company name has been painted in by a previous owner but could be removed if desired. - Sold for £7200 Lot 339 A single line key token, "DOVEY JCT - BORTH", (alloy), from the Cambrian Railway's Aberystwyth route, this section following the Dovey estuary then the coast. - Sold for £200 Lot 340 An original oil painting by Barry Price, featuring Merchant Navy Class 35017 Belgian Marine, leaving Bournemouth West, with the up Bournemouth Belle while Battle of Britain Class 34086, "219 Squadron" stands at the other platform. A lovely view full of detail down to the Southern concrete lamp posts and signal finials, 32 1/2"x19". - Sold for £1000 Lot 341 An LMS glazed poster frame with a raised pediment bearing the company initials in gilt lettering, excellent original condition, ready for your favourite LMS poster. - Sold for £170 Lot 342 A smokebox numberplate, "5027" from the GWR 4073 "Castle" Class 4-6-0 "FARLEIGH CASTLE" built at Swindon in April 1934 and allocated new to Old Oak Common where it remained until moving to Chester in 1950 and later to Stafford Road and Bristol Bath Road, Reading, Carmarthen and finally Llanelly from where it was withdrawn in November 1962. After periods in store at Llanelly and Tyseley, it was cut up at Cashmores, Great Bridge in September 1963. The actual Castle is a ruined manor house near Trowbridge, Wiltshire. The front of the plate has been repainted. - Sold for £1000 Lot 343 An L&Y sign, "LANCASHIRE & YORKSHIRE RAILWAY, CARRIAGE & WAGON DEPT, NO ADMISSION EXCEPT ON BUSINESS", wood with cast letters and beading, 36"x18", original white on maroon paintwork. The sign was used at Horwich Works. - Sold for £720 Lot 344 A locomotive headboard, "BUTLINS EXPRESS", as used on Great Eastern line trains from Liverpool Street to Clacton-on-Sea for the famous holiday camp in the late 50s and early 60s. Cast aluminium with original black paintwork over earlier blue, the back shows the names of other named trains e.g. Granite City, Devonian, Inter-City, White Rose etc - Sold for £2000 Lot 345 A Great Western Railway wooden cased indicator with a white face and circular aperture in which a swinging flag shows "signal on/wrong/signal off" in red, black and green, a brass plate "3" at the top. Excellent original condition. - Sold for £320 Lot 346 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "ST LUKES", (f/f), from the station situated just outside Southport on the Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway's routes to Preston and Wigan. The station closed on 8th September 1968. Excellent colour and shine. - Sold for £480 Lot 347 A shedplate "75A", Brighton (1950 until closed to steam in June 1964). This ex LBSCR shed had a 1950s allocation of around 75 locos, most notable being the Brighton Atlantics and a large number of the Schools Class 4-4-0s. A handful of West Country Pacifics were also maintained here. The front of the plate has been repainted. - Sold for £170 Lot 348 A Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway engraved brass shelf plate, "CLECKHEATON SOUTH", from the company's Low Moor to Dewsbury and Mirfield route, 5"x 3/4", the suffix in slightly smaller lettering. - Sold for £40 Lot 349 A Highland Railway three aspect handlamp with a brass plate "P.WAY INSPECTOR, KINGUSSIE" on the side, the front bears an oval embossed plate "HENDRY BROTHERS, GREAT CLYDE STREET, GLASGOW" while the body is clearly stamped "H. Ry". It is complete with its original vessel, burner and reflector, which slides in and locks the drum in place, copper cone and piecrust top, a fine example from the Highland main line. - Sold for £300 Lot 350 A single line key token, "LLANDRE - BOW STREET", (steel/cast metal plates either side), from the Cambrian Railway's Dovey Junction to Aberystwyth line. The two stations closed on 14th January 1965. - Sold for £320 Lot 351 A BR presentation Smiths Astral wristwatch, the back engraved "BR WESTERN REGION, A.H.S. CLARK IN APPRECIATION OF 45 YEARS SERVICE". A view of a piper, loose framed, light folds. - Sold for £100 Lot 353 A Railway Signal Company miniature train staff, "HINCASTER JCT - ARNSIDE", from the Furness Railway's route to the West Coast Main Line used by freight between Barrow and the east coast via Tebay. The staff is steel with brass rings and cap and is contained in its original leather pouch with buckles to attach it to a hoop, excellent condition. - Sold for £440 Lot 354 A rolled signal box diagram, "L.M.S.R. CUMWHINTON", 20/7/1944, from the Midland Railway's main line between Skipton and Carlisle. It shows the down goods loop, up siding, station and up and down track circuits (8337/8336). The station and box were situated just south of Carlisle between Cotehill and Scotby. Multicoloured, 40"x15", rolled with three minor edge tear repairs. A rare opportunity to acquire an LMS diagram from the Settle and Carlisle line. - Sold for £40 Lot 355 A cast iron road sign, "HIGHBRIDGE, 3 1/2 BRIDGWATER 10 3/4 A370". The sign was used near Brent Knoll in Somerset. 41"x7" with ring for post part of which is broken away, the wording unaffected. - Sold for £40 Lot 356 A tenderplate, "WATER CAPACITY, 4000 GALLONS", cast brass oval, 97/8"x6", a distinctive pattern cast by the North British Locomotive Company and fitted to the LMS Jubilee Class 4-6-0 locos built by the company, LMS Nos 5557-606, BR 45557-606. - Sold for £60 Lot 357 A Highland Railway enamel armband "H.R. LOOK-OUT,", red on white, 4 1/4"x3", excellent condition with only the most minor edge chips, complete with straps and buckle. - Sold for £130 Lot 358 An LMS wooden pediment with scroll decoration at the ends and carved with the company coat of arms in the centre, 30 1/2" long with two separate supports. It was mounted above a mirror in one of the company's royal saloons. (3) - Sold for £60 Lot 359 A BR(S) light green totem sign, "LEIGH HALT", (f/f), from the South Eastern Railway's Redhill to Tonbridge route, the station being situated east of Penshurst. Excellent colour and shine. - Sold for £330 Lot 360 A locomotive worksplate, "KERR, STUART & Co LTD, LONDON & STOKE, No 3089, 1918" from a 3ft gauge 0-6-0T new to Gilbert Brown, Grantown-on-Spey, Morayshire in April 1918 for the Timber Board and used at Carr Bridge. It then moved to a site at Elslack near Skipton for the duration of a reservoir contract and later to Lehane Mackenzie & Shand Ltd for use on the Femilee Reservoir contract in Derbyshire. Late in 1939 it went via TW Ward to the Appeby-Frodingham Steel Co Ltd at Cottesmore Ironstone Quarry as their No 340 and was scrapped on site in January 1957. Cast brass oval, 12"x6 3/4", the plate has been cleaned and polished. - Sold for £1100 Lot 361 A London and North Western Railway signal box nameboard "ERDINGTON", from the Birmingham to Lichfield route. The board is 50"x10" with cast letters, the front repainted, replacement wood grafted in at the top and new beading in the correct style. - Sold for £170 Lot 362 A locomotive worksplate, "BRUSH TRACTION, No 339, 1961, ENGLAND", from an 0-4-0 diesel shunter built by Beyer Peacock, Works No 7946, with Brush electrical equipment and supplied to Renishaw Iron Co as their No 21 in September 1961. Cast aluminium oval, 95/8"x5 3/4", ex loco condition with red on black paintwork. - Sold for £100 Lot 363 An LMS cast iron notice, "L.M.S. ENGINES MUST NOT PASS THIS BOARD", used at one of the Carlisle sheds. 26 3/4"x20", white on maroon paintwork. - Sold for £520 Lot 364 A Tyers No 6 single line tablet, "BANAVIE CANAL - ANNAT", (brass) from the West Highland Extension of the North British Railway from Fort William to Mallaig. The section runs from the Swing Bridge over the Caledonian Canal to Annat where sidings serve the Lochaber paper mills. - Sold for £320 Lot 365 A pair of airhorns from a Class 84 West Coast Main Line electric locomotive, one brass, the other brass with black paintwork, mounted on a small stand. They are accompanied by a bank of four gauges from the Loco Cab, two of which are marked "North British Loco Co." (2) - Sold for £90 Lot 366 A Southern Railway enamel target sign, "TORRINGTON". The station was the terminus of the branch from Barnstaple Junction until the company extended the line to Halwill in 1925. The route closed to passengers in 1966, though clay and milk traffic continued for some years. This is the first example to be offered at auction and a great rarity. A few chips and a little wear as is usual. - Sold for £3550 Lot 367 A BR(Sc) light blue totem sign, "BROOMHILL", (f/f), from the Highland Railway's Aviemore to Forres route which closed on 18th October 1965. Appropriately it spent most of its working life at Edge Hill, the nearest shed to Southport with an allocation of express passenger engines, moving late on to Llandudno Junction, Holyhead, Willesden, Carlisle Upperby and Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in December 1964 and cut up at West of Scotland Shipbreaking Co, Troon between February and April 1965. The plate is 34 1/2" long and is presented on a wooden splasher with the coat-of-arms mounted above; a rare opportunity to acquire a badged Patriot. - Sold for £24500 Lot 376 A smokebox numberplate, "45527" from the LMS Patriot Class 4-6-0 "SOUTHPORT", in superb ex loco condition with original paintwork. It finished its LMS days at Sutton Oak and later moved to Crewe South, Widnes and Agecroft from where it was withdrawn in September 1962 and cut up at Horwich Works three months later. After four months in store at West Hartlepool, it was cut up at Thompsons, Stockton-on-Tees in February 1965. The post was located just south east of Malvern Wells Hanley Road Station, the section closing in 1962. After five months in store at Aberdare, it was cut up at Birds, Morriston the following December. The plate is in ex loco condition with original paintwork. - Sold for £440 Lot 409 A BR(W) double royal poster, "THE ENCHANTING RIVER DART, Travel by Rail to Totnes or Dartmouth!" by C. King (PR202/61). A tranquil view of the estuary with a paddle steamer in view, rolled, light folds. - Sold for £210 Lot 410 A pair of LMS yellow cab notices: (a) "L.M.S. This engine is fitted with a sand gun...,CME2, Jan 1943" instructions for use; and (b) Similar, Standard Automatic Steam Brake Valve, Two Ejectors, No Pump, MP 5 March 1931 (corner chips), each 6"x8". (2) - Sold for £30 Lot 411 A locomotive nameplate, "THE KING'S DRAGOON GUARDSMAN", from the LMS Class 6 (later 6P, then 7P) "Royal Scot" 4-6-0 built at Derby in 1930, LMS No 6152, becoming BR 46152. The loco achieved great fame when in 1933 it exchanged identities with the renowned Class leader No 6100 "Royal Scot" on a permanent basis and toured America and Canada under that guise. The original 6100 became BR 46152 and was allocated to Camden, Longsight, Kentish Town, Holyhead, Willesden, Llandudno Junction but mostly at Crewe North, although finishing its days at Carlise Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in April 1965. After three months in store at Kingmoor, it was cut up at Motherwell Machinery & Scrap Co, Wishaw the following July. A double line plate 53 1/2" long, the front repainted red, the back in original condition, the plugged holes clearly visible. - Sold for £13200 Lot 412 A Great Western Railway "Spagnoletti" signal indicator with a white face for up line and an aperture with swinging flag "Line clear/Train on line", the face possibly repainted, otherwise unrestored. - Sold for £110 Lot 413 A Glasgow and South Western Railway brass signal box instrument plate, "HOUSTON", from the company's Paisley to Greenock route, 3 3/4"x1". - Sold for £55 Lot 414 A locomotive worksplate, "LMS, BUILT 1925 DERBY". Locos built that year were Class 4 (later 4P) 4-4-0 Nos 1085-114, BR 41085-114 and Class 4 (later 4F) 0-6-0 Nos 4035-56/4207-16, BR 44035-56/4207-16. Cast brass oval, 10 1/2"x6", the front background repainted black. - Sold for £90 Lot 415 A BR(Sc) light blue totem sign, "GARROWHILL", (f/f), from the North British Railway's Glasgow to Airdrie branch which originally extended to Bathgate and Edinburgh. Rebuilding is now in progress which will put Garrowhill back on a Glasgow to Edinburgh route. Excellent colour and shine though some edge and face chips filled and repainted to match. - Sold for £390 Lot 416 A Caledonian Railway 13" dial dropcase wall clock with a fusee movement. The original face marked "CALEDONIAN RAILWAY Co", it is complete with a spun brass bezel, pendulum and key, with doors to the side and base and a glazed oval aperture in the dropcase. A good example in original condition. - Sold for £900 Lot 417 A cast iron notice titled "LONDON AND NORTH WESTERN AND GREAT WESTERN RAILWAYS JOINT LINES" and concerning trespassing. It refers to the acts of both companies and is dated February 1885. The front has been repainted. - Sold for £210 Lot 418 An LMS gold medallion with the full company name and coat of arms in blue, white and red enamel on a shield. The back is hallmarked and engraved "1928-29, CHALLENGE CUP WINNERS, F. CUNLIFFE". Excellent condition, 1"x1 1/4", with ring. - Sold for £120 Lot 419 An "LMS STEAMERS" silver plated coffee pot by Mappin and Webb, the company name prominently engraved on the side with a laurel leaf surround, an elegant style and in lovely condition. - Sold for £130 Lot 420 A shedplate "86C", Cardiff Canton (1950 to September 1960), then Hereford (September 1960 to November 1964). The ex GWR shed at Canton had around 130 locos on its books during this time, which included Castles, Halls and a dozen Britannias. Canton became 88A until September 1963 when, as a diesel depot, it became 86A. The former GWR shed at Hereford, formerly 85C, had 27 locos when it adopted this code. A view of the loch with a single yacht and cottage dwarfed by the mountains, loose framed with folds. - Sold for £140 Lot 429 A GNSR four aspect handlamp with a brass plate "GREAT NORTH OF SCOTLAND RAILWAY COMPANY" (embossed) and "TURRIFF" (stamped). It has its original vessel stamped "GNSR", a BR burner and all glasses (it lacks a reflector), fine original condition. Turriff was on the Inveramsey to Macduff branch which closed to passengers on 1st October 1951 and to freight ten years later, the section from Turriff southward lasted until 1966. - Sold for £340 Lot 430 An LMS rose pattern china tea service comprising a teapot, hot water pot, sugar bowl, dreg bowl, four tea plates and four cups and saucers. JOINT, 13", from the Shrewsbury and Hereford line, oval cast iron, 17 3/4"x11 1/2", the front repainted. - Sold for £140 Lot 432 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "KENDAL", (f/f), from the Oxenholme to Windermere branch in the Lake District. Excellent colour and shine, one pin-head sized chip on the "N". - Sold for £1400 Lot 433 A shedplate "36C", Frodingham (1949 to February 1966). This ex GCR shed housed over 70 locos in the 1950s and, within 18 months of closure, still looked after 40 locos. The characters and rim have probably been repainted, - Sold for £75 Lot 434 A Southern Railway enamel target sign, "CHATHAM", from the London Chatham and Dover Railway's main line to the Channel ports, the station being situated to the east of Fawkham Junction. Cast aluminium rectangle, 13"x6 3/4", in ex loco condition with original BR blue paintwork. - Sold for £340 Lot 445 A locomotive worksplate, "BUILT 1952 DERBY". Locos built that year were BR Class 5MT 4-6-0 No 73029, BR Class 4MT 2-6-4T Nos 80000-09, (LMS) Class 2P (later 2) 2-6-2T Nos 41320-29 and (LMS) 0-6-0 diesel electric shunters Nos 12098-102. Cast iron oval, 10 1/2"x6", the front repainted. - Sold for £80 Lot 446 A Great Western Railway brass cabside numberplate, "6651", from a 5600 Class 0-6-2T built by Armstrong Whitworth, Works No 939, in August 1928 and allocated new to Ebbw Junction. It had moved to Pontypool Road by the end of its GWR days and spent most of its BR days at Aberdare before moving back to Pontypool Road and then Croes Newydd from where it was withdrawn in October 1965. After four months in store at Croes Newydd, it was cut up at Cashmores, Great Bridge the following February. The front repainted, the back in original condition. - Sold for £920 Lot 447 An "LMS STEAMERS" silver plated toast rack by Elkington, to hold six slices, the company name clearly engraved on the top in a laurel leaf surround. - Sold for £65 Lot 448 A London and South Western Railway bridgeplate "574", from Mill Hill bridge situated just west of Coleford Junction where the Plymouth and Ilfracombe routes diverge. 22"x12", the front repainted white on green. - Sold for £35 Lot 449 A Railway Signal Company miniature train staff, "HEATHFIELD - ROTHERFIELD", from the Redgate Mill Junction (Eridge) to Polegate line which closed on 14th June 1965. The staff has a steel body with rings and cap. - Sold for £230 Lot 450 A North British Railway signal box nameboard, "GARNQUEEN SOUTH JUNCT". The box was on the Monkland and Kirkintilloch Railway's route from Airdrie to Kirkintilloch Basin which opened in 1826. Although passenger stations opened from time to time in the early days they only lasted a few years, a couple of short sections of the route survive. Garnqueen was the junction for the Caledonian route to Carmuirs Jct, south of Larbert. Cast letters on wood, 104 1/2"x10 3/4", with beading, repainted black on white. - Sold for £60 Lot 451 A brass armband, "CITY OF LIVERPOOL, OUT PORTER, 460", cast brass oval with liver bird at the top, 3 1/2"x2", complete with straps and buckle. - Sold for £30 Lot 452 A BR(W) chocolate and cream totem sign, "BEDMINSTER", (f/f), from the Great Western Railway's Bristol and Exeter main line, the first station south of Temple Meads. The base is branded L&Y and has a small metal plate "BESCAR LANE", a station on the company's Southport to Wigan route. The station was on the London and North Western Railway's Manchester and Leeds route and situated between Greenfield and the west end of Standedge Tunnel. It closed on 7th October 1968. - Sold for £200 Lot 463 A Webb and Thompson large single line train staff, "SANDY - BLUNHAM", from the London and North Western Railway's Oxford to Cambridge line which closed as a through route on 1st January 1968. This section is located east of Bedford on one of the "lifted" sections. - Sold for £440 Lot 464 A locomotive nameplate, SIR VILLIARS, King Arthur Class", from the SR Maunsell N15 Class 4-6-0 No 790, one of the "Scotch Arthurs" built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23286, in September 1925. It became BR 30790 and spent all its BR days at Eastleigh from where it was withdrawn in October 1961 to be cut up at the nearby Works three months later. The plate is 39 1/2" long and, although the background has been repainted red, it is otherwise untouched. - Sold for £7000 Lot 465 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "CEFN-Y-BEDD", (f/f), from the Great Central Railway's Wrexham Mold and Connah's Quay line. Excellent colour and shine with some rust on the flange edge. - Sold for £760 Lot 466 A Glasgow & South Western Railway signal finial with a cruciform spike, square base and legs, 31" high repainted. - Sold for £220 Lot 467 An advertising sign, "WILLS GOLD FLAKE CIGARETTES", depicting an LMS express hauled by "6200" at speed, the "Gold Flake, Honey Dew" emblem lower left, an early laminate on thin steel frame, card backed, 15"x20", produced in the 1930s. - Sold for £120 Lot 468 A makers plate, "RUSTON & HORNSBY LTD LINCOLN ENGLAND, MAKERS 1943, 451770, PATENT HORIZONTAL THERMAX BOILER NUMBER 51330". Thermax boilers were fixed boilers supplied for industrial use, now more usually referred to as "package" boilers. They were (and still are) used for supplying steam for a variety of uses in food factories, hospitals etc. It is not known whether any were ever supplied to railway companies, but nevertheless a large and impressive plate. Cast brass oval, 13"x8 1/2", unrestored but devoid of paint. - Sold for £10 Lot 469 A North Eastern Railway 9 1/2" dinner plate, by Booths, with a blue border and multicoloured coat of arms and "N.E Ry Hotels Dept" scroll, a fine example. - Sold for £70 Lot 470 An LMS cap with gold wire decoration, the company initials in yellow script on a black band, similar style to those worn in the film "Brief Encounter" which was filmed on the company's station at Carnforth. - Sold for £40 Lot 471 A Great Western Railway enamel sign outlining the rules for inflammable stores and titled "GWR DANGER", red on white, 14"x10" one small face chip and lower corner chips all restored. - Sold for £45 Lot 472 A London, Brighton and South Coast Railway wagonplate, "L.B.S.C., 8 TONS, 3635", rectangular, 9"x7 1/4", completely unrestored with some original paintwork. - Sold for £85 Lot 473 A shedplate "50A", York (1949 to June 1967 for steam, totally March 1984). This ex NER shed had 180 locos allocated in the 1950s including 5 A1s, 6 A2s, 4 B1 Antelopes and 10 D49 Hunts. In the 1960s it was home to the few remaining A1 Pacifics and much later became host to the magnificent Deltics. After closure it was transformed into the National Railway Museum. BOYLE", hallmarked, 3"x5", mounted on an ebony stand. - Sold for £10 Lot 477 An enamel direction sign "LMS RAILWAY STATION", with feathered arrow, double sided, cream on brown, 19"x9 1/2", virtually mint condition. - Sold for £420 Lot 478 A single line key token, "INVERGORDON - TAIN", (brass), from the Highland Railway's "Far North" route, this section close to the shores of the Cromarty Firth. - Sold for £60 Lot 479 A smokebox numberplate, "42787", from a LMS Class 4 (later 5) 2-6-0 "Crab" built at Crewe in 1927, LMS No 13087, renumbered 2787 in 1934, becoming BR 42787. A long time Willesden loco, its later sheds included Birkenhead, Crewe South, Northwich, Rugby, Stoke, Agecroft and Gorton from where it was withdrawn in April 1965. After four months in store at Heaton Mersey, it was cut up at Hayes, Bridgend the following August. The front of the plate has been repainted long ago. - Sold for £580 Lot 480 A BR(M) maroon enamel sign, "CARLISLE", double sided, fully flanged with lead lining and hanging hooks, 72"x16", one side very good, the other with a few chips, excellent colour and shine. - Sold for £240 Lot 481 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "TENBY", (f/f), from the Great Western Railway's Whitland to Pembroke Dock branch. The title was introduced in 1927 but withdrawn during the war years and not reinstated until 1949. It last ran in June 1965. Original unrestored condition with red paintwork, 33"x15 1/2", plenty of signs of use over many years. - Sold for £4100 Lot 485 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "BRONDESBURY", (h/f), from the North London line between Willesden Junction and Hampstead Heath. Excellent colour and shine. - Sold for £290 Lot 486 A single line key token, "POOL QUAY - LLANYMYNECH", (alloy), from the Cambrian Railway's Whitchurch to Welshpool route which closed to passengers on 18th January 1965. - Sold for £110 Lot 487 A London and North Western Railway carbide handlamp with brass front, body and handle, metal base and securing bars "LNWR" prominently embossed on all three parts, excellent original condition. - Sold for £80 Lot 488 A Tyers No 6 single line tablet, "DAVA - GRANTOWN ON SPEY WEST", (brass), from the Highland Railway's Aviemore to Inverness route. With the completion of the direct line via Slochd Summit in 1898, the Dava route lost its importance although it survived until 18th October 1965. - Sold for £200 Lot 489 An "LMS HOTELS" wine glass, 5" high, the company name on the side in a frosted panel. - Sold for £40 Lot 490 A BR(E) dark blue totem sign, "DAGENHAM EAST", (h/f), from the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway's main line west of Upminster. Excellent colour and shine, one edge chip just into the blue. - Sold for £400 Lot 491 A locomotive worksplate, "No 4011, 1927, THE VULCAN FOUNDRY (LIMITED) NEWTON-LE-WILLOWS, LANCASHIRE", from the LMS Class 4 (later 4P) 4-4-0, LMS No 1198, BR 41198, which finished its LMS days at Accrington later moving to Bedford and Leicester from where it was withdrawn in November 1955. Cast brass oval, 9"x5 1/4", the front cleaned but not repainted, the back stamped "41198" at the top. - Sold for £620 Lot 492 A locomotive nameplate, "METEOR", originally carried by the LMS Class 6 "Royal Scot" 4-6-0 No 6128 built by the North British Locomotive Co, Works No 23623, in 1927 and named the following year after an early 0-2-2 loco built by the Liverpool & Manchester Railway in 1830 with accompanying plaque depicting the early loco. The nameplates were removed when the loco was renamed in 1936 after the LMS decided to bestow regimental names on the 25 Royal Scots named after historical locos and were transferred (but without accompanying plaques) to the newly Crewe built Class 5XP (later 6P) "Jubilee" 4-6-0 No 5734 which became BR 45734. In its BR days 45734.was allocated to Longsight followed by a lengthy stay at Bushbury where it was a regular performer on the Euston expresses, then Crewe North, Carlisle Upperby and finally Carlisle Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in December 1963. After four months in store at Kingmoor, it was cut up at Crewe Works the following April. 34 1/2" long, the front repainted long ago, the back in original condition. - Sold for £9000 Lot 493 An enamel advertising sign, "VENO'S LIGHTNING COUGH CURE FOR COUGHS, COLDS, FLU, BRONCHITIS, ASTHMA & CHILDREN'S COUGHS"," dark blue lettering and border on yellow, with white shaded lettering, 15"x24", excellent colour and good shine, a little edge chipping. - Sold for £60 Lot 494 A BR(M) maroon enamel sign, "PASSENGERS MUST CROSS THE LINE BY THE BRIDGE", (f/f), 24"x18", in excellent colour and shine, minor edge wear lower right only. - Sold for £90 Lot 495 An "LMS HOTELS" silver plated drinks service, comprising 12" diameter tray, pint and half pint tankards and a matchbox holder with ashtray, all marked with the company name in block motif. (4) - Sold for £120 Lot 496 A Lancashire and Yorkshire Railway Fire Hose Nozzle, cast brass, 4" long with the company initials prominent on one face of the hexagonal body. A lovely example and ideal for a paperweight. - Sold for £65 Lot 497 A carriage print, "BRAEMAR CASTLE, ABERDEENSHIRE", by Edward Lawson, from the Scottish Region Series. A tranquil view of the turreted building, woodland and mountains beyond. - Sold for £130 Lot 498 A BR(M) maroon totem sign, "PRESTON", (h/f), from one of the principal London and North Western Railway stations on the West Coast Main Line. Excellent colour and shine though with the usual rust staining to the white enamel - Sold for £1150 Lot 499 A pair of Glasgow & South Western Railway square base, cruciform pattern signal post finials, the body solid without a central cut out. 24" high. (2) - Sold for £300 Lot 500 A BR(Sc) light blue totem sign, "AVIEMORE", (h/f), from the Highland Railway's Perth to Inverness main line.
