Lot 298 A nameplate SAMSON, from the LMS Jubilee Class 6P 4-6-0 No 5738 built at Crewe and named when built on 30 November 1936 after a pioneer locomotive built by Robert Stephenson for the Liverpool & Manchester Railway in 1831. The nameplate was originally carried by the Royal Scot Class No 6135 which was renamed The East Lancashire Regiment in May 1935. Allocated new to Crewe North No 45738 spent most of its LMS days at Camden and most of its BR days at Bushbury before moving in 1959 to Carlisle Upperby and then nearby Kingmoor from where it was withdrawn in the week ending 28 December 1963 and cut up at Crewe Works by 28 February 1964. Cast brass, length 28¾", the front repainted. £7000-9000
